Samantha Norwood
Samantha Frances Norwood (born 7 December 1989) is an Australian basketball player playing for the Canberra Capitals in 2012/13. She previously had played for the West Coast Waves in the Women's National Basketball League. She played for Stony Brook University for a year. Personal Norwood was born on 7 December 1989 in Esperance, Australia, and is from Perth, Western Australia. She attended Willetton Senior High School before going on to Stony Brook University, where she majored in arts and sciences. Other sports she has participated in include field hockey, swimming and badminton. She is tall, and has two siblings. Basketball Norwood is a centre and power forward. Coached by Robyn Marler, she was a member of the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Willetton High School teams that won the Australian National School Tournament. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Townsville Fire
The Townsville Fire are an Australian professional female basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). They are the only female professional sporting team of any discipline in the northern half of Australia. The team was established in 2001 by Townsville Basketball Inc. In 2014, James Cook University became the team's principal partner and naming rights sponsor. Following the 2010/11 season, the Fire were seemingly doomed, folding under the weight of financial pressures before an 11th hour resurrection. Prior to the 2011/12 season, the team became a not-for-profit, community owned entity. The Fire reached four straight WNBL Grand Finals between 2012/13 and 2015/16, winning back-to-back championships in 2015 and 2016. The Melbourne Boomers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The Boomers compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play the majority of their home games at Melbourne Sports Centre – Parkville and the State Basketball Centre.
