Samantha Atkinson (born c.1994) is an Australian international lawn and indoor bowler and world indoor champion. She reached a career high ranking of world number 6 in June 2024. Bowls career Atkinson came to prominence in 2023, after winning the 2023 Australian Indoor Championships women's singles title. Together with Ray Pearse, she won the mixed pairs title at the 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships The 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships took place at the Guernsey Indoor Bowling Association in the Channel Islands from 21 to 27 April 2024. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which players try to roll their ball (called a bowl) closest to a smaller ball (known as a "jack" or sometimes a "kitty"). The bowls are shaped (biased), so that they follow a curved path when being rolled. The game is played either in teams or one against one. The game was first played in the 13th century. The game is played on grass, although other surfaces are sometimes used. Matches are held either until one player gets to a score, or when a number of ''ends'' are played. The game is mostly played on a bowling green, which can vary by the type of bowls being played. Whilst the game is often played outdoors, there are indoor bowling venues, and can also be played on rollable carpets. For outdoor games, this is usually on grass; however, it can also be played on cotula in New Zealand. World Bowls Indoor Championships
The World Bowls Indoor Championships is bowls event inaugurated in 2019 by the organisations known as World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). It is contested annually between bowlers from national bowls organisations. The competition is the rival event to the World Bowls Tour's blue riband event called the World Indoor Bowls Championships. In 2019, World Bowls came to an agreement with the IIBC (formerly the WIBC). The agreement was to merge their two international indoor championships, the World Cup Singles and the IIBC Championships. The new event would be called the World Bowls Indoor Championships. The event was due to start on 20 April 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was unable to be held until 2022. 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships
The 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships took place at the Guernsey Indoor Bowling Association in the Channel Islands from 21 to 27 April 2024. The event was organised by World Bowls and the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). The format of the Championships is one player representing each county in the singles and two in the pairs. A round robin determines the top player/team in each section progressing to the quarter finals and the second place player/team progressing to the knockout round. One second place team was also drawn out of the hat to progress to the quarter final. Jason Greenslade representing Guernsey after switching from Wales, won the men's singles event. Ray Pearse
Ray Pearse (born 25 July 1984) is an international Australian lawn bowler. Bowls career Pearse has won four medals at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships, a silver medal and bronze medal in 2015 and a bronze in the singles and a silver in the pairs with Nathan Rice at the 2019 Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in the Gold Coast, Queensland. Pearse won the 2018 Australian National Bowls Championships and also won the NSW Champion of Club Champions Singles and NSW State Singles titles in 2018. In 2021, he won his second Australian Open crown, this time in the pairs. Together with Samantha Atkinson, he won the pairs title at the 2024 World Bowls Indoor Championships, held at the Guernsey Indoor Bowling Association.
