Sam Ellis (cricketer)
Samuel G. A. Ellis (died 26 March 1946) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club in 1902, and club cricket for Lodway Cricket Club in Pill, Somerset. Life and career Sam Ellis was the fourth son of Thomas, a Maritime pilot, pilot at the ports of Cardiff and Bristol, and Sarah Ellis, and was born in either 1870 or 1871. Ellis's single appearance for Somerset came in the match against Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire at Old Trafford (cricket), Old Trafford in June 1902, a tight match won by Somerset by just nine runs. Ellis batted at No 7 in the first innings and scored 5; in the second innings he was at No 9 and failed to score. Sam Ellis (footballer)
Samuel Ellis (born 12 September 1946) is an English football coach and former player. He was most recently the assistant manager of Middlesbrough. His only honour was guiding Blackpool to promotion from Division Four to Division Three in 1984–85. Career Ellis was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. In his younger days, he played as a centre-half for Sheffield Wednesday in the 1960s. As a teenager he made his debut in the 1966 FA Cup final against Everton, which his team lost 3–2. He then moved on to play for Mansfield Town, Lincoln City, and Watford. It was at Vicarage Road that he became coach and assistant manager to future England boss Graham Taylor. With Ellis' help, Watford climbed the divisions before turning down a new contract in favour of trying his hand at management. Sam Ellis (born 23 June 1982) is a British 800 metres runner from Barnsley. He won a bronze medal in the 800 m at the 2006 European Athletics Championships. He is coached by Alan Hastey and is on the World Class Podium funding programme. Ellis attended Penistone Grammar School and is a graduate from Sheffield Hallam University in Architecture. National and international career Ellis was a member of Barnsley Athletics Club before joining City of Sheffield Athletic Club in 2007 and was formerly a 400m international, achieving a bronze medal at this distance in the 2000 Commonwealth Youth Games held in Edinburgh. In 2004 he was a surprise winner of the 800m at the AAA National Championships, claiming his first senior AAA gold. Despite the win at the AAAs, which were also used as the Olympic trials, Ellis was not picked for the Olympics that year as he had not achieved the qualifying standard. Samuel Joseph Ellis (February 11, 1941 – May 13, 2016) was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds, California Angels, and Chicago White Sox. Ellis was an MLB All-Star in 1965. College career Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Ellis was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 1961 after playing college baseball at Mississippi State University (MSU) for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. At Mississippi State, he lettered one year (1961) with a pitching record of 12–7, leading the team in strikeouts (73) and innings pitched (57). He was named to MSU's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. General Sir Samuel Burdon Ellis (bapt. 10 March 1782 – 10 March 1865) was a senior Royal Marines officer. Early life Ellis was born in 1782, the son of Captain Charles Ellis, R.N. and his wife Susanna. Life Ellis entered the Royal Marine Light Infantry as a second lieutenant on 1 January 1804. He was at once sent on board ship, and, after first seeing service in Sir Robert Calder's action off Cape Finisterre, was present at the Battle of Trafalgar. He was quickly promoted to lieutenant in 1806. He was present in the Walcheren expedition in 1809 and in the capture of Guadeloupe in 1810, and being on board , was later employed off the coast. Firstly, he was employed off the coast of Spain and then of southern France during the latter years of the Peninsular war. Samuel Ellis and Company (also known as H & J Ellis) was a British engineering company, based in Salford, Lancashire. It operated, in various form, from 1832 to 1887. History Samuel Ellis Samuel Ellis was born in 1803 at Melinrhyd, near Cyfronydd railway station, Cyfronydd in Mid Wales. He showed an early interest in mechanical devices, and when he was 11 he built a model of a watermill that included novel improvements to the mechanism. His father, Hugh Ellis, was so impressed that he incorporated Samuel's suggested improvements in his own mill.
