Arizona 6th Legislative District
Arizona's 6th legislative district is one of 30 in the state, consisting of all of Apache County and sections of Coconino County, Gila County, Graham County, Mohave County, Navajo County, and Pinal County. As of 2023, there are 108 precincts in the district, with a total registered voter population of 151,306. The district has an overall population of 225,474. Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (AIRC) redrew legislative district boundaries in Arizona. The 6th district was drawn to guarantee ''a majority Native American constituency'', with 61% of residents being non-Hispanic Native Americans. Ted Carpenter (politician)
Theodore Wayne Carpenter (December 7, 1951 – November 19, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 1999 until 2007. He was first elected to the House in November 1998, representing District 19, and was re-elected in 2000. After redistricting in 2002, Carpenter was again re-elected in both 2002 and 2004, now representing District 6. Not eligible to run for the House in 2006 due to Arizona's term limits, he ran for the Arizona State Senate, but lost to Pamela Gorman in the Republican primary. Gorman went on to win the general election. Pamela Diane Gorman is a conservative Republican politician. She was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2004 and most recently served as Arizona State Senator for District 6 from her election in 2006 (and reelection in 2008) until she vacated her seat on January 25, 2010, in order to run for Congress to replace the retiring John Shadegg. The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents (2009 figures). Members serve two-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to four terms for a total of eight years. Members of the Republican Party are currently the majority in the Senate. There is currently 16 women serving in the Senate after Raquel Terán was appointed, making it the first time a majority of the body was composed of female members. As with the Arizona House of Representatives, members to the Senate are elected from the same legislative districts as House members, however one Senator represents the constituency, while for the House there are two Representatives per district. John Barden Shadegg (; born October 22, 1949) is an American politician and former U.S. Representative for , serving from 1995 until 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party. The district, numbered as the 4th District before the 2000 Census, includes much of northern Phoenix. Early life, education and career Shadegg is the son of the former Eugenia Kerr and Stephen Shadegg, both deceased.
