Sam Berger is an American politician who is the representative for New York's 27th State Assembly district. He was elected in a 2023 special election to replace Daniel Rosenthal, who resigned to take a position at UJA-Federation of New York. Berger is a member of the Democratic Party. New York's 27th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly in the United States. The seat is represented by Sam Berger since a special election in 2023, succeeding Daniel Rosenthal. Geography District 27 is located in Queens, comprising the neighborhoods of Beechhurst, Kew Gardens Hills, Kew Gardens, College Point, Malba, Pomonok and Whitestone. Most of Flushing Meadows–Corona Park is within this district. The 2022 New York gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor and lieutenant governor of New York. Incumbent Democratic governor Kathy Hochul won a full term in office, defeating Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin in the closest New York gubernatorial election since 1994 and the closest Democratic victory since 1982. Hochul's election marked the first time that a woman was elected to the state's governorship. Lee Michael Zeldin (born January 30, 1980) is an American attorney, politician, and officer in the United States Army Reserve. A Republican, he has represented New York's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2015. He represents the eastern two-thirds of Suffolk County, including most of Smithtown, the entirety of Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island, and a small portion of Islip. Daniel Rosenthal (born June 6, 1991) is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly, representing District 27 since 2017. Rosenthal represents the central and eastern Queens neighborhoods of Kew Gardens Hills, Pomonok, Electchester, and College Point, and parts of Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Briarwood, Forest Hills, and Whitestone.
