SamTrans
SamTrans (stylized as samTrans; officially the San Mateo County Transit District) is a public transport agency in and around San Mateo, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It provides bus service throughout San Mateo County and into portions of San Francisco (a consolidated city-county) and into portions of Palo Alto and Stanford in Santa Clara County. SamTrans also operates commuter shuttles to BART stations and community shuttles. Service is largely concentrated on the east side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and, in the central county, I-280, leaving coast-side service south of Pacifica spotty and intermittent. SamTrans is constituted as a special district under California state law. Daly City station is an elevated Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in Daly City, California, just south of the city limits of San Francisco. It is adjacent to Interstate 280 (California), Interstate 280 and California State Route 1, California Route 1, which it serves as a Park and ride, park-and-ride station. Caltrain (reporting mark JPBX) is a commuter rail line in California, serving the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley). The southern terminus is in San Jose, California, San Jose at the Tamien station with weekday rush hour service running as far as Gilroy, California, Gilroy. San Mateo County Transportation Authority
The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) is a transportation planning and programming agency for San Mateo County that was created following the 1988 passage of Measure A, a voter-approved half-cent sales tax for countywide transportation projects. The Authority plans, funds and delivers transportation programs and projects throughout San Mateo County. SMCTA is a separate legal entity from the SamTrans. It is governed by an appointed board of seven directors, who are elected officials, representing the county, cities, and SamTrans.
