Salzburg Camerata
The Camerata Salzburg is an Austrian chamber orchestra based in Salzburg, Austria. The Camerata's principal concert venue is the Mozarteum University. History Bernhard Paumgartner founded the ensemble in 1952 as the ''Camerata Academica des Mozarteums Salzburg'', comprising his fellow teachers and students from the ''Mozarteum''. He served as its director and ''de facto'' principal conductor until his death in 1971. Antonio Janigro became the new leader of the Camerata in 1974, the same year when the first ''abonnement'' series of concerts were performed in Salzburg. Sándor Végh then served as principal conductor of the Camerata from 1978 until his death in 1997. Roger Norrington became principal conductor of the Camerata in 1997, and held the post until 2006. During his tenure, Norrington placed greater emphasis on historically informed performance practices. Chamber Orchestra
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of Musical instrument, instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a Great chamber, palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers). Louis Langrée
Louis Langrée (born 11 January 1961) is a French conductor. He is the son of organist and theorist Alain Langrée. Biography Early years Langrée studied at the Strasbourg Conservatory, but had no formal academic training in conducting. He began his career as a vocal coach and assistant at the Opéra National de Lyon, from 1983 to 1986. He then worked as an assistant conductor at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and held a comparable post with the Bayreuth Festival. From 1989 to 1992, he was an assistant conductor with l'Orchestre de Paris. Warner Classics is the classical music arm of Warner Music Group. The label began issuing new recordings under the Warner Classics banner in 1991. The company also includes the Erato Records and Teldec Records labels. Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis after his acquisition of a gramophone manufacturer, The Decca Gramophone Company. Leonidas Kavakos
Leonidas Kavakos (; born 30 October 1967) is a Greek violinist and conductor. He has won several international violin competition prizes, including the Sibelius, Paganini, Naumburg, and Indianapolis competitions. He is an Onassis Foundation scholar. He has also recorded for record labels such as Sony/BMG and BIS. As a conductor, he was an artistic director of the Camerata Salzburg and has been a guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra. Historically informed performance (also referred to as period performance, authentic performance, or HIP) is an approach to the performance of Western classical music, classical music which aims to be faithful to the approach, manner and style of the musical era in which a work was originally conceived.
