Salvatori (design)
Salvatori is an Italian design brand specialising in natural stone such as marble, limestone and sandstone. History Salvatori was founded in 1946 in Querceta, Tuscany, close to the Carrara marble quarries. In 1950 the founder Guido Salvatori invented the “split face” finish, whereby the stone is opened up to expose the textured surface within. In the early 2000s in addition to textures the company started to also produce bathroom items such as bathtubs and basins. More recently the company has introduced its Home Collection, which began with tables and later extended into areas such as lighting, storage solutions and accessories, in order to widen its appeal. In 2010 Salvatori invented Lithoverde, the world’s first material almost solely made from recycled natural stone. Lithoverde is 99% composed of offcuts of marble (Bianco Carrara or Gris du Marais) or limestone (Crema d’Orcia or Pietra d’Avola) which are bound together by a natural resin (the remaining 1%). Stone industry refers to the part of the primary sector of the economy, similar to the mining industry, but concerned with excavations of stones, in particular granite, marble, slate and sandstone. Other products of the industry include crushed stone and dimension stone. Stone industry is one of the oldest in the world. Creation of stone tools (microliths industry) in the region of South Africa has been dated to about 60,000–70,000 years ago. Granite and marble mining existing as far back as ancient Egypt. Piero Lissoni
Piero Lissoni (born July 23, 1956, in Seregno) is an Italian architect, art director and designer. For over thirty years, he has developed projects the world over in the fields of architecture, landscape and interior, as well as in product and graphic design. He is also art director for Alpi, B&B Italia, Boffi, Living Divani, Lema, Lualdi, Porro and Sanlorenzo. In 1986, Lissoni, alongside Nicoletta Canesi, founded the studio Lissoni & Partners in Milan, Italy, focusing on architecture as well as interior and product design. In 1996, Lissoni Graphx, the agency for visual communication, directed by Piero Lissoni's brother Massimo Lissoni, was added to the company. Graphx specializes in brand identity, including catalogs, advertising campaigns, videos, web design, and packaging. Wigmore Street
Wigmore Street is a street in the City of Westminster, in the West End of London. The street runs for about 600 yards parallel and to the north of Oxford Street between Portman Square to the west and Cavendish Square to the east. It is named after the village of Wigmore and its castle in Herefordshire, a seat of the family of Robert Harley, politician around the time of Queen Anne, who owned land in the area. Brera is a district ("quartiere") of Milan, Italy. It is located within the Zone 1 (the historical core of the city) and it is centred on Via ''Brera''. The name stems from Medieval Italian "braida" or "brera", derived from Old Lombardic "brayda" (often Latinized as "praedium"), meaning a land expanse either cleared of trees or naturally lacking them. Yabu Pushelberg is an international design studio with offices in Toronto and New York. Founded in 1980 by Canadian designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, the studio has evolved from a traditional interior design firm into creative directors of experience, practicing branding and positioning, interiors, products, lighting, textiles, and styling. Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola Hidalgo (born 1961 in Oviedo) is a Spanish architect, industrial designer and art director. Biography Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, and studied architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She later moved to Milan to complete her studies at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1989 under the mentorship of Achille Castiglioni. She worked with Vico Magistretti and later served as Head of Design at Lissoni Associati. She has received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts from the Spanish government and the Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. In 2023, she was appointed Honorary Ambassador of Marca España. Luca Nichetto
Luca Nichetto is an Italian industrial designer and creative director based in Stockholm. He is most well known for his work with Ginori 1735, Hermès, Foscarini, Cassina, And Tradition and Steinway & Sons. Biography Nichetto was born in 1976 in Venice. He had sold designs to factories during his holidays in school. He schooled at the Istituto Statale d’Arte in Venice and graduated in 1998 with a degree in industrial design from Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV). The subsequent year saw him join forces with Salviati, and he later took on roles as a product designer and consultant for the lighting firm Foscarini. In 2006, he ventured into establishing his own firm, Nichetto Studio, in his hometown. By 2011, he relocated to Stockholm, Sweden, to start a family and launch a second studio.
