Salvatore Pappalardo (born 18 March 1945) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who was Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Siracusa, Archbishop of Siracusa from 2008 to 2020. Before that, he was Roman Catholic Diocese of Nicosia, Sicily, Bishop of Nicosia for ten years. Biography Salvatore Pappalardo was born in Nicolosi on 18 March 1945. He was ordained a priest on 30 June 1968. He studied at the seminary in Catania and then obtained a licentiate in theology and a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University. In the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Catania, Archdiocese of Catania he was a religion teacher in state schools, head of the diocesan Catechetical Office, vice rector of the seminary, and a parish priest. He became chancellor of the archdiocese and was Vicar General from 1989 to 1998. Pope John Paul II named him Roman Catholic Diocese of Nicosia, Bishop of Nicosia on 5 February 1998. Salvatore Pappalardo (23 September 1918 – 10 December 2006) was an Italian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who was Archbishop of Palermo for over 25 years, from 1970 to 1996. He was the first senior clergyman from Sicily to speak out against the Mafia, breaking its code of omertà (vow of silence). Biography Pappalardo was born in Villafranca Sicula in Sicily. He was ordained as a priest in Rome on 12 April 1941, and was a Counsellor of the Vatican Secretariat of State from 1947 to 1965, receiving in 1951 the title of Privy Chamberlain to Pope John XXIII, and in 1961 that of Domestic Prelate. He was appointed titular archbishop of Miletus and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Indonesia on 7 December 1965. He was appointed President of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome on 7 May 1969. Salvatore Pappalardo (composer)
Salvatore Pappalardo (1817–1884) was an Italian composer and conductor. Born in Catania, Pappalardo began his studies in his home city before entering the Palermo Conservatory where he studied under Pietro Raimondi. He worked as a music teacher and was a conductor at the opera house in Catania until he moved to Naples in 1845 when he was made the court composer for Prince Leopold, Count of Syracuse.
