Salthill Demesne
Salthill () is a seaside area to the southwest of Galway city centre in the west of Ireland. The area is home to a number of tourist amenities and there is a 2 km long promenade, locally known as "the Prom", which overlooks Galway Bay. History The village of Salthill, which was known as "Salt Hill" until 1819, was originally a separate and "outlying village" of Galway city. Salthill's promenade opened in 1856. 19th century tourism Salthill became a bathing resort in the 19th century, capitalising on the rising popularity of seaside bathing amongst both pleasure seekers and believers in the medicinal properties of mineral waters. Doctor Robert Rogers Gray opened his artificial medicinal baths in 1831 on the site that today consists of the reclaimed land of Claude Toft Park. Galway ( ; , ) is a City status in Ireland, city in (and the county town of) County Galway. It lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament which began in season 1970–71. It is the top-tier competition for the senior football clubs of Ireland and London. The current champions are Cuala of Dublin who defeated Errigal Ciarán of Tyrone on 19 January 2025 to win their first All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The current trophy is the Andy Merrigan Cup, named after a footballer who played for Castletown Liam Mellows and Wexford who died as a result of a farm accident at the height of his playing career. Spanish Arch
The Spanish Arch () and the Caoċ Arch (, "blind arch") in Galway city, Ireland, are two remaining arches on the Ceann an Bhalla ("Front Wall"). History The two arches were part of the extension of the city wall from Martin's Tower to the bank of the River Corrib, as a measure to protect the city's quays, which were in the area once known as the Fish Market (now Spanish Parade). It was constructed during the mayoralty of Wylliam Martin in 1584, being called ''ceann an bhalla'' (''the head of the wall''). In the 18th century the Eyre family of Eyrecourt, County Galway, created an extension of the quays called The Long Walk and created the arches to allow access from the town to the new quays. The designation "Spanish" is not historical to this period and was likely known as the Eyre Arch when built. Eyre Square
Eyre Square ( ; ) is a city public park in Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The park is within the city centre, adjoining the nearby shopping area of William Street and Shop Street. Galway railway station is adjacent to Eyre Square. The park is rectangular, surrounded on three sides by streets that form the major traffic arteries into Galway city centre; the west side of the square was pedestrianised in 2006. Mervue United A.F.C. is an Irish association football club based in Mervue, Galway. Their senior men's team currently plays in the Galway & District League. The club has previously fielded teams in the Connacht Senior League, the League of Ireland U21 Division, the A Championship and the League of Ireland First Division. The Galway & District League is an association football league organized by the Galway Football Association. It features amateur and junior clubs from County Galway. It currently features four divisions. Its top division, the Premier Division, is a seventh level division in the Republic of Ireland football league system.
