Sakurai-no-eki
The was a post station on the ancient ''Saigoku kaidō'' highway in what is now the Sakurai neighborhood of the town of Shimamoto, Osaka in the Kansai region of Japan. It is noted for its connection to theb imperial loyaloist Kusunoki Masashige and was designated a National Historic Site in 1921. Overview The Sakurai post station was an ''umaya'', or horse station, on the ''Saigoku kaidō'', the official government highway connecting Heian-kyō with Shimonoseki. Established by the Taika Reforms, such stations were located approximately every 30 ''ri'' (about 16 kilometers) along the route. Per Volume 5 of the ''Shoku Nihongi'', under an entry for the year 711, "Ohara Station, Shimakami County, Settsu Province" was created on the route between Kyoto and Nishinomiya, and it is believed that this location corresponds to the Sakurai post station. Kusunoki Masatsura
was the eldest son of Kusunoki Masashige (1294 – 1336), and succeeded him as the head of the Kusunoki lineage. Along with his father and his younger brothers Masanori and Masatoki, Masatsura was a supporter of the Southern Imperial Court during Japan's Nanbokucho Wars. Masatsura was one of the primary military leaders who contributed to a temporary revival of the fortunes of Japan's Southern Court in the 1340s. The Court had had little to no resources for three years; the strategy was too focused on defending their base at Yoshino, and not on gaining allies, land, or income. The Kusunoki family, and Masatsura in particular, fought to gain power and support for the Emperor. In 1347, Masatsura led an attack on ''bakufu'' (shogunate) sympathizers in Kii Province and ended up attracting supporters from Kii, as well as Izumi and Settsu Provinces. The is a railway line in Japan operated by the private railway operator Hankyu Railway. It connects Osaka-umeda Station in Osaka and Kyoto-kawaramachi Station in Kyoto.
