Sakarçäge District
Sakarçäge District is a district of Mary Province in Turkmenistan. The administrative center of the district is the town of Sakarçäge. Founded in December 1938 as Sakarçäge, it moved to Mary at November 1939. Sakarçäge was abolished in January 1963, but the following year it was restored in direct submission to the Turkmen SSR government. In December 1970, it rejoined Mary, where it was in place until this day. Districts Of Turkmenistan
The districts of Turkmenistan (, sing. ''etrap'') are territorial entities below the regions of Turkmenistan, provinces of Turkmenistan (, sing. ''Wilayah, welaýat''). They may be counties, cities, or boroughs of cities. The heads of the districts (, translated as "governor" for districts of a ''welaýat'' and "mayor" for cities or boroughs of a city) are appointed by the President of Turkmenistan (Constitution of Turkmenistan, Articles 80-81). Regarding cities "with district status" (), by Turkmen law, "...such cities must have population over 30,000 and be the administrative center of a province (welaýat); headed by a presidentially appointed häkim." Turkmenistan is divided into five regions, or ''welaýatlar'' (singular '' welaýat'') and one capital city (''şäher'') with provincial legal status. The Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic, also known as Soviet Turkmenistan, the Turkmen SSR, TuSSR, Turkmenistan, or Turkmenia, was one of the Republics of the Soviet Union, constituent republics of the Soviet Union located in Soviet Central Asia, Central Asia existed as a republic from 1925 to 1991. Şatlyk is a city in Sakarçäge District, Mary Region, Turkmenistan. Etymology Prior to 1971 the settlement was known as Şehitli. The word ''şehit'' in Turkmen means "martyr" or "someone who dies an untimely death", but the reference is obscure. The word ''şatlyk'', on the other hand, means "joy, happiness". Economy Şatlyk's main industry is natural gas extraction from the Shatlyk Gas Field. The Shatlyk compressor station is nearby. A large poultry farm is located east of the city.
