Şəkər, Khojavend
Shekher (; ) is a village in the Khojavend District of Azerbaijan, in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The village had an ethnic Armenian-majority population in 1989. History During the Soviet period, the village was part of the Martuni District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast within the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. After the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the village was administrated as part of the Martuni Province of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh. The village came under the control of Azerbaijan on 9 November 2020, during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Sakar, Mali Zvornik
Sakar () is a small village next to Mali Zvornik in the Mačva District of Serbia. It has a population of 504 people. The village is on Lake Zvornik (). It is near a hydroelectric power station. History There were only two Muslim villages on the right side of the Drina river in 1862: Mali Zvornik and Sakar. Sakar came under the administration of the Principality of Serbia when it became internationally recognized as a condition of the Treaty of Berlin. After this event, Serbian families began to move into the village. The nearby hydroelectric power station was completed in 1954, and the resulting inundation of farmland depleted the traditional Muslim population of the village. Sakar () is a low dome-shaped mountain range in southeastern Bulgaria, whose southeasternmost limits extend to European Turkey. Its highest peak is Vishegrad with an altitude of 856 meters above sea level. It is an important ornithological area and contains 220 bird species. Sakar Peak on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is named after it. Satyabrata Sarkar
Satyabrata Sarkar, (born 1928 in Uttarpara near Calcutta, India), was a scientist, investigating physiological phenomena in plants and then studying the structure and function of plant-pathogenic viruses in the Max-Planck-Institute for Biology in Tübingen and at the University of Hohenheim in Germany. Later on (since 1999) he was teaching Bengali language and literature in the Department of Indology of the University of Tübingen. On 11 December 2022 he died aged 94. Education and career Sarkar passed his Matriculation from the Uttarpara Government High School (1944), studied at Ripon College (now known as Surendranath College), Presidency College Calcutta (Bachelor of Science, 1948) and at the University of Calcutta (Master of Science, 1950). He worked on tissue culture of plants and the application of radioisotopes in biological research at the Bose Institute, Calcutta.
