Belgrade Pride
Belgrade Pride () is an annual pride parade held in Belgrade, Serbia to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and their allies. After the first attempt in 2001, which was faced with hooligans violence, authorities prevented further efforts to organize and register the event until 2010, when it was organized once again and faced attacks resulting in 100 injured. In 2013 the Constitutional Court of Serbia had ruled that the 2011 ban was a violation of the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of assembly awarding damages to the organizers. The third pride parade was organized in 2014 (when the first Belgrade Trans Pride was organized in parallel) without any notable incident, after which the event is organized every year, except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2016 onwards, the second pride event known as the Pride of Serbia, is organized in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots. At the conference in Bilbao in 2019, Belgrade P ...

LGBT Rights In Serbia
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Serbia face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Serbia, and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in areas such as employment, education, media, and the provision of goods and services, amongst others, is banned. Nevertheless, households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples. In May 2014, Amnesty International identified Serbia as one of a number of countries where there is a marked lack of will to tackle homophobia and transphobia, noting that public authorities had repeatedly banned pride marches on the basis of violent threats from homophobic groups and had failed to protect LGBT individuals and organizations from discrimination, including verbal and social media threats and physical attacks. The Belgrade Pride successfully took place in September 2014 in Be ...

Straight Ally
An ally is a person who is associated with another as a helper; a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity or struggle. In recent years, the term has been adopted specifically to a person supporting one or more marginalized groups. A straight ally or heterosexual ally (often simply called an ally) is a heterosexual and cisgender person who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ social movements. Individuals may meet this designation through their actions without actively identifying as an ally. In February 2012, American writer David M. Hall wrote an article for CNN, about the television show Glee, in which he expressed the following opinion: A straight ally aims to use their position of privilege as cisgender or heterosexual people in a society biased towards heteronormativity to bring down the inequalities of transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia. "Without straight allies, the queer rights movement would not be w ...
