Saint-Vianney, Quebec
Saint-Vianney () is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in La Matapédia Regional Council Municipality. It was known as Saint-Jean-Baptiste-Vianney until 1988. History The first settlers arrived in 1918. In 1920, several Franco-American families settled in the territory. The Langis mission was founded in 1921. Its name recalls that of the canton of Langis of which Saint-Vianney is a part, named in honor of Louis-Jacques Langis who was parish priest of L'Isle-Verte and canon in the cathedral of Rimouski. The post office was opened on April 12, 1922. The first chapel was inaugurated on December 24, 1922. The municipality was officially founded on August 27, 1926 under the name Saint-Jean-Baptise-Vianney. The first mayor, Oscar Poulin, was elected on October 20, 1926. Sainte-Paule () is a municipality in Quebec, Canada. History The first inhabitants of this territory settled in 1912. However, a sawmill had already been built here in 1897. In the past, the area was called Colonie Val-Joubert in honour of Louis-Philippe Joubert, an influential lumber merchant from Sayabec who settled Sainte-Paule in 1903. Today, the name of Sainte-Paule's primary school is Val-Joubert. The Sainte-Paule Catholic mission was founded in 1923. The post office was opened in 1938 under the name Sainte-Paula. The caisse populaire was founded on September 15, 1945. The parish was canonically erected in 1948. Amqui
Amqui (; ) is a town in eastern Quebec, Canada, at the base of the Gaspé peninsula in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Located at the confluence of the Humqui and Matapédia Rivers, it is the seat of La Matapédia Regional County Municipality. The main access road is Quebec Route 132. The Mi'kmaq word ''amgoig'', also written ''humqui'', ''unkoui'' and ''ankwi'', means "the place to have fun", "half wall" or "place of amusement and pleasure." Another Mi'kmaq name for the area is ''Amkooĭk'' or ''Mkooögwĭk'' which aptly describes the area as "boggy." One source postulates that its name comes from the swirling water at the junction of the Humqui and Matapédia rivers.
