Saint-Urbain-Premier
Saint-Urbain-Premier () is a municipality located southwest of Montreal in Beauharnois-Salaberry, in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 1,332. History Settlement of the area started at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1804, the first lots were granted. In 1821, the area was officially surveyed and settlers began arriving in larger numbers. In 1848, the parish of St. Urbain Premier was formed, named after Pope Urban I, who reigned from 222 to 230AD. In 1853, its post office opened, and two years later, the Parish Municipality of Saint-Urbain-Premier was founded. In 1876, the post office was renamed to Saint-Urbain-de-Châteauguay, in order to distinguish it from Saint-Urbain in the Charlevoix region. In 1997, the parish municipality changed statutes to became a regular municipality. Sainte-Martine () is a municipality in Beauharnois-Salaberry Regional County Municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. The population as of the 2021 Canadian census was 5,664. The municipality is made up of a large northern section and a small unattached southern area that was known as the municipality of Saint-Paul-de-Châteauguay until its merger with Sainte-Martine on September 9, 1999. History Sainte-Martine is named in honor of Martina of Rome, martyred in 226. Being already settled and recognize as Sainte-Martine for many years, the status of the municipality was officialized on July 1, 1855, as the parish municipality of Sainte-Martine. The municipality lost a section of its territory in 1885 for the creation of the parish of Très-Saint-Sacrement. It also lost a sizeable part in 1937 when Saint-Paul-de-Châteauguay split from Saint-Martine to become its own municipality, but it was eventually reattached to Sainte-Martine in 1999. Mercier () is a suburban town in southwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Roussillon Regional County Municipality. It is located on the Châteauguay River, southwest of Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 14,626. History Officially founded in 1855, Mercier was formerly called Sainte-Philomène. The name was changed in 1968 in order to pay homage to the former Premier of Quebec, Honoré Mercier, who served from 1887 to 1891. The name change is also due to the proximity to the Honoré Mercier Bridge and also aims to give the city a name that is more marketable and less unpleasant in English. Moreover, the worship dedicated to Philomena was increasingly uncertain and had survived thanks to the devotion with which it was surrounded in the 19th century. Saint-Urbain () is a parish municipality located in the Charlevoix Regional County Municipality, in Capitale-Nationale region, Quebec, Canada. The municipality lies along Route 381 at the intersection with Route 138. History In the late 18th century, the Séminaire de Québec encouraged settlers to settle in the highlands of the area. Although the name Saint-Urbain was already in use since 1815, the parish was not canonically erected until 1827 and civilly in 1835. The parish, also called Saint-Urbain-de-Beaupré, was named in honour of Urbain Boiret (1731–1774), superior of the seminary in 1762. By 1830, the place has about 300 people in 50 families.
