Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde (; Provençal: ''Sant Marc de Jaumegarda'') is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. Location It is located 6 kilometres away from Aix-en-Provence and Vauvenargues, Bouches-du-Rhône, and 3 kilometres away from Le Tholonet, near the Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The commune includes Bonfillons, Roussillier, Plan de l'Orgue, Savoyards, and Bourg. There are two man-made lakes, namely Bimont and Zola, and the streamlet, Prignon. History In 1239, the land was given to the Lord of Esparon by Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Provence. By 1490, Jacques Garde had become Lord of Saint-Marc, and twenty years later the land was passed on to Dauphine Garde, wife of Bertrand de Puget. In 1723, Saint-Marc was sold to the Meyronnets, a family of advisors in the Provence Parliament. In 1784-1785 Philippe de Meyronnet invited Lucien Bonaparte and Joseph Bonaparte to his estate. Joseph Bonaparte
Joseph Bonaparte (born Giuseppe di Buonaparte, ; ; ; 7 January 176828 July 1844) was a French statesman, lawyer, diplomat and older brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. During the Napoleonic Wars, the latter made him King of Naples (1806–1808), and then King of Spain and the Indies (1808–1813). Lucien Bonaparte, 1st Prince of Canino and Musignano (; born Luciano Buonaparte; 21 May 1775 – 29 June 1840), was a French politician and diplomat of the French Revolution and the Consulate. He served as Minister of the Interior from 1799 to 1800 and as the president of the Council of Five Hundred in 1799. Ramon Berenguer IV or V (; 1198 – 19 August 1245) was a member of the House of Barcelona who ruled as count of Provence and Forcalquier. He was the first count of Provence to live in the county in more than one hundred years. Montagne Sainte-Victoire
Montagne Sainte-Victoire ( Provençal according to classical orthography and according to Mistralian orthography) is a limestone mountain ridge in the south of France which extends over between the départements of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var. Its highest point is the ''Pic des mouches'' at ; this is not however the highest point in Bouches-du-Rhône, which is instead found in the Sainte-Baume massif. The '' Croix de Provence'' is a notable feature of the mountain. At a height of 19 metres, this cross, although not placed at the highest point of the mountain, stands out from the ridge far more than the Pic des Mouches. Vauvenargues, Bouches-du-Rhône
Vauvenargues (; Provençal: ''Vauvenarga'') is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. It is close to Aix-en-Provence and the Montagne Sainte-Victoire. Population Chateau of Vauvenargues The chateau in Vauvenargues stands on the site of a Roman fort which eventually was incorporated in a medieval fortress controlled by the Counts of Provence and later the Archbishops of Aix. For 250 years until the French Revolution it was the seat of the de Clapiers family, who rebuilt the chateau in its present form and on whom Louis XV bestowed the title Marquis of Vauvernagues. For 150 years after that it was occupied by the d'Isoard family. In the mid-twentieth century its connection with French nobility lapsed. It was eventually bought in 1958 by Pablo Picasso, who was resident until 1962.
