Saint Christopher
Saint Christopher ( el, Ἅγιος Χριστόφορος, ''Ágios Christóphoros'') is venerated by several Christian denominations as a martyr killed in the reign of the 3rd-century Roman emperor Decius (reigned 249–251) or alternatively under the emperor Maximinus Daia (reigned 308–313). There appears to be confusion due to the similarity in names "Decius" and "Daia". Churches and monasteries were named after him by the 7th century. One day he carried a child, who was unknown to him, across a river before the child revealed himself as Christ. Therefore, he is the patron saint of travelers, and small images of him are often worn around the neck, on a bracelet, carried in a pocket, or placed in vehicles by Christians. Historicity Probably the most important source of the historicity of Christophorus is a stone inscription published by Louis Duchesne in 1878. Saint-Christophe-du-Bois () is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. History According to an unconfirmed tradition recorded in 1705, Saint Maurille, bishop of Angers, was the founder of Saint-Christophe in the 4th century. A legend also reports that the first inhabitants of the town, having undertaken the construction of their village at a place called La Binaudière, drew an auspicious omen from a flock of crows which fell on them and carried branches to at the location of the present town. Saint-Christophe-en-Bourbonnais (; oc, Sant Cristòu) (known as Saint-Christophe until 31 December 2022) is a commune in the Allier department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in central France. Geography Saint-Christophe-en-Bourbonnais is surrounded by the communes of Billezois, Saint-Prix, Le Breuil, Isserpent, Molles, and Saint-Étienne-de-Vicq.
