Saint-André-de-Restigouche
Saint-André-de-Restigouche () is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in Quebec, Canada. Its economy is mostly dependent on agriculture, as well as forestry. The International Appalachian Trail traverses the municipality. History In 1760, the site was the scene of the last battle between the English and French, which resulted in the destruction of the settlement and the displacement of its population to the east. It was repopulated by Acadians and French Canadians in the 19th century. In 1842, the geographic township of Ristigouche was formed, named after the Restigouche River (R''i''stigouche in French) on which it bordered. In 1855, it was incorporated as the Township Municipality of Ristigouche. In 1908, the Parish of Saint-André was established, named in honour of André-Albert Blais (1842-1919), bishop of Rimouski from 1891 to 1919. André-Albert Blais
André-Albert Blais (26 August 1842 – 23 January 1919) was a Canadian Roman Catholic priest and Bishop of Rimouski. Born in Saint-Vallier, Quebec, the son of Hubert Blais and Marguerite Roy, Blais was educated in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, Quebec, at the Quebec Seminary and at Collège de Lévis. He was ordained in 1868. From 1868 to 1869, he taught at Collège de Lévis. From 1869 to 1873, he was a professor of English at the Quebec Seminary and assistant director of the Pensionnat. From 1873 to 1874, he was director of the Pensionnat. From 1874 to 1877, he studied in Rome. From 1877 to 1881, he was a professor of Canonical law at the Quebec Seminary. Bonaventure () is a provincial electoral district in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located on the southern shore of the Gaspé Peninsula and encompasses several towns along the Baie des Chaleurs and the New Brunswick border. Ristigouche-Sud-Est, Quebec
Ristigouche-Sud-Est (; or Ristigouche-Partie-Sud-Est until February 2024) is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, near the head of the Baie de Chaleur. It is a rural municipality without population centres, situated along the CN Railway line which hosts the VIA Rail Ocean (train) route; the nearest VIA station is Matapedia. History At the beginning of the 19th century, the voyage between Quebec and Saint John passed the Temiscouata Portage and via the Saint John River valley. After the War of 1812, it was decided to develop a new maritime route which was to be located away from the border. The International Appalachian Trail (IAT; , SIA) was originally a hiking trail which ran from Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, in Maine, through New Brunswick, to the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, after which it followed a ferry route to Newfoundland (island), Newfoundland, and then continued to the northern-easternmost point of the Appalachian Mountains at Belle Isle (Newfoundland and Labrador), Belle Isle, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Restigouche River (, ) is a river that flows across the northwestern part of the province of New Brunswick and the southeastern part of Quebec. The river flows in a northeasterly direction from its source in the Appalachian Mountains of northwestern New Brunswick to Chaleur Bay. Its meander length is approximately .
