The Saigon River () is a river located in southern Vietnam that rises near Phum Daung in southeastern Cambodia, flows south and southeast for about and empties into the Nhà Bè River, which in its turn empties into the South China Sea some northeast of the Mekong Delta. Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh ( vi-hantu, 阮有鏡, 1650–1700), also known as Nguyễn Hữu Kính and his noble rank Lễ Thành Hầu, was a high-ranking general of Lord Nguyễn Phúc Chu. His military expeditions into the Mekong Delta placed the region firmly under Vietnamese administrative control. Considered to be the most famous military general during the time of Vietnam's southward expansion (Nam tiến), Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh founded the city of Saigon in 1698. The Ho Chi Minh City Metro (HCMC Metro, ) is a rapid transit system in Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous city in Vietnam. The system currently consists of one operational line, Line 1 which opened on 22 December 2024 from Bến Thành Market to Eastern Bus Terminus. Additional lines are currently under construction or being planned. Line 1 is long with three underground stations ( Bến Thành, Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, and Ba Son) and eleven elevated stations.
