Saida Mirziyoyeva
Saida Shavkatovna Mirziyoyeva (born 4 November 1984) is an Uzbek politician and the eldest daughter of incumbent President of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Since June 2025, she's the Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. In August 2023, when the position of Head of the Presidential Administration was dissolved, Mirziyoyeva was appointed First Assistant to the President and took over the highest position in the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, president's administration after the President of Uzbekistan, head of state. In 24 June 2025, the position of Head was re-established and Mirziyoyeva was appointed to it. Gulnara Karimova
Gulnara Islamovna Karimova (Cyrillic Uzbek: ; , ; born 8 July 1972) is a former Uzbek businesswoman and the elder daughter of Islam Karimov, the president of Uzbekistan from 1991 to his death in 2016. She wielded considerable influence in Uzbekistan owing to her business dealings and family connections. From 2013, due to a conflict with her father, she began to rapidly lose influence. Karimova was placed under house arrest in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in November 2014. She was questioned by Swiss prosecutors in December 2016 in a money-laundering investigation. Dilorom Yuldosheva
Dilorom Yuldasheva () is an Uzbek businesswoman with a disability. She lost her legs in an accident with a combine harvester. Her business employs 40 others. Her achievements were recognized, and she was named one of the BBC's 100 Inspiring Women. She also received a national courage award in 2024. Life Yuldasheva was married and she worked in the fields in the Denov district of Uzbekistan. She was hand-feeding a combine harvester when her long clothes became entangled in the machinery. As a result, both of her legs had to be amputated. She became immobile as her family could not afford a wheelchair. 2023 Uzbek Presidential Election
Early presidential elections were held in Uzbekistan on 9 July 2023. The early election was called after the approval of the constitutional referendum where term limits were reset and president Shavkat Mirziyoyev can serve two more seven-year terms. The amendments were accepted in the referendum with over 90% in support, which will allow Mirziyoyev to be president for two further terms if re-elected. A constitutional referendum was held in Uzbekistan on 30 April 2023. It was to be held on proposed constitutional amendments. Parliament approved the referendum on 15 March 2023. The amendments were accepted in the referendum with over 90% in support. Background President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was re-elected in 2021 for a second term in elections which were noted for a lack of competition. However, he is ineligible to run for the office in 2026, in accordance with the current constitution, since it limits presidents to two terms of five years each. 2022 Karakalpak Protests
Protests broke out in the autonomous region of Karakalpakstan in Uzbekistan on 1 July 2022 over proposed amendments by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Uzbek President, to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, which would have ended Karakalpakstan's status as an autonomous region of Uzbekistan and right to secede from Uzbekistan via referendum. A day after protests had begun in the Karakalpak capital of Nukus, President Mirziyoyev withdrew the constitutional amendments. The Karakalpak government said that protesters had attempted to storm government buildings. Despite concessions given by the Uzbek government in preserving Karakalpakstan's autonomy, protests continued growing, resulting in internet blockage throughout Karakalpakstan on 2 July, and President Mirziyoyev declaring a state of emergency in the region.
