Siege Of Turin
The siege of Turin took place from June to September 1706, during the War of the Spanish Succession. A French army led by Louis de la Feuillade besieged the Savoyard capital of Turin, whose relief by Prince Eugene of Savoy has been called the most brilliant campaign of the war in Italy. The siege is also famous for the death of Piedmontese hero Pietro Micca. By 1706, France occupied most of the Duchy of Savoy, leaving only its capital Turin in the possession of its ruler, Victor Amadeus. Pietro Micca
Pietro Micca (6 March 1677 – 30 August 1706), also known as Pierre Micha, was an Italians, Italian soldier who became a national hero of the Duchy of Savoy for his sacrifice in the siege of Turin, defence of Turin against the Kingdom of France, French troops. Early life Micca was born at Sagliano, now Sagliano Micca, Piedmont, near the town of Biella. His mother was Anna Martinazzo, of Riabella. In his home village, he worked as a bricklayer. Micca was enlisted into the Duchy of Savoy, Sabaudian army as a sapper, with the rank of a Private (rank), private soldier; he was nicknamed ''Passepartout''.
