Sagaiguninini
The Sagaiguninini (‘people of the lake’) were allegedly a sub-nation of the Algonquin group. In 1630-1640, the group lived south-west of the Ottawa river and may have been unrelated to the rest, "as nearly all the other bands are on or northeast of the Ottawa River". They lived east of Georgian Bay and what is now known to locals as "The Big Three" lakes in Ontario (Lake Rosseau, Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph). Very little is known about this group today, however the Algonquin word "sagaigun" means lake and their name is still part of the local culture and language. Lake Rosseau
Lake Rosseau is located in Ontario, Canada, about north of Toronto. The south end of the lake is in the Township of Muskoka Lakes, and the north end is in Seguin Township. The lake is surrounded by many cottages, some dating back to the late 19th century. The village of Rosseau is located at the northern tip of Lake Rosseau and is the location of one of the original Ontario summer resorts which brought exposure to the area. Pratts Point and Rosseau House were well known and although the hotel was destroyed long ago, the vista and scenery remain. Windermere House is a resort located at Lake Rosseau. Geography Lake Rosseau is connected to Lake Joseph through the narrows at Port Sandfield and the Joseph River. Lake Muskoka
Lake Muskoka is located between Port Carling and Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. The lake is surrounded by many cottages. The lake is primarily within the boundary of the Township of Muskoka Lakes, the southeast corner is within the boundary of the Town of Gravenhurst, and another small portion around the mouth of the Muskoka River is within the boundary of the Town of Bracebridge. The town of Bala is located on the southwestern shores of the lake, where the Moon River starts. Lake Muskoka is connected to Lake Rosseau through the Indian River and lock system at Port Carling. The lake is mainly fed by the Muskoka River, Lake Joseph and Lake Rosseau. Algonquin People
The Algonquin people are an Indigenous people who now live in Eastern Canada and parts of the United States. They speak the Algonquin language, which is part of the Algonquian language family. Culturally and linguistically, they are closely related to the Odawa, Potawatomi, Ojibwe (including Oji-Cree), Mississaugas, and Nipissing, with whom they form the larger Anicinàpe (Anishinaabeg) group. Algonquins are known by many names, including Omàmiwinini (plural: Omàmiwininiwak, "downstream man/men") and Abitibiwinni (pl.: Abitibiwinnik "men ivinghalfway across the water") or the more generalised name of Anicinàpe. Seguin is a township in central Ontario, Canada, in the District of Parry Sound. History The Township of Seguin was created by Minister's Order, dated May 8, 1997. RMS ''Segwun'' is the oldest operating steamship, steam driven vessel in North America, built in 1887 as ''Nipissing'' to cruise the Lake Muskoka, Muskoka Lakes in the District Municipality of Muskoka, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, a resort area with many lakes and rivers.
