Sadaf Manzil is the name of a four-storey residential building in Nagpada, Mumbai which collapsed on 23 August 2005 killing 11 residents and leaving 24 others injured. Nagpada
Nagpada is a neighbourhood in South Mumbai. The place derives its name from a local Shiva temple, and abode of Naag or the snake wound around Shiva's neck. It has a community basketball court. In 2005, Nagpada was the location of the Sadaf Manzil building collapse. In April 2018, the Nagpada junction was beautified with a 25 metre national flag along with a mural dedicated to Bharat Ratna Abul Kalam Azad. The area was a meeting point for pre-independence gatherings and has witnessed many political movements during the pre-independence era. MHADA
The Maharashtra Housing Board (MHB) was established in 1948 and had a jurisdiction over the entire State of Maharashtra except for the Vidarbha region. This body undertook construction of residential buildings under various housing schemes for different sections of society. The allotment and maintenance of these buildings was being looked after by it. On the re-organization of the State, the Vidarbha Housing Board (VHB) was established in 1960 as a successor body to the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh Housing Board. Indigenous tribals have inhabited Mumbai (Bombay) since the Stone Age. The Kolis and Aagri (a Marathi-Konkani people) were the earliest known settlers of the islands. The Maurya Empire gained control of the islands during the 3rd century BCE and transformed them into a centre of Hindu-Buddhist culture and religion. Later, between the 2nd century BCE and 10th century CE, the islands came under the control of successive indigenous dynasties: the Satavahanas, Abhiras, Vakatakas, Kalachuris, Konkan Mauryas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Silharas& Cholas. Bhima of Mahikavati established a small kingdom in the area during the late 13th century, and brought settlers.
