Sabine Hadida
Sabine Hadida is a pharmacologist and senior vice president at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. She works at Vertex's cystic fibrosis research center in San Diego. She was awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences in 2024. Education Hadida has a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Barcelona, Spain. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pittsburgh studying fluorous chemistry. The Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences is a scientific award, funded by internet entrepreneurs Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan of Facebook; Sergey Brin of Google; entrepreneur and venture capitalist Yuri Milner; and Anne Wojcicki, one of the founders of the genetics company 23andMe. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder inherited in an autosomal recessive manner that impairs the normal clearance of Sputum, mucus from the lungs, which facilitates the colonization and infection of the lungs by bacteria, notably ''Staphylococcus aureus''. CF is a rare genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. The hallmark feature of CF is the accumulation of thick mucus in different organs. Long-term issues include Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent pneumonia, lung infections.
