Sabina Nowak
Sabina Nowak (; married name Pierużek-Nowak; born 6 June 1959) is a Polish scientist and wolf expert. She is president of the Association for Nature Wolf (AfN Wolf) and a member of the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe. Life In 1983, Nowak graduated from the University of Silesia in Katowice with a ''Master of Science'' degree in biology. In her doctoral thesis she described the "Ecology of Wolves". She has been taking care of the wolf in Poland since the mid-1990s. From 1993 to 1998 she coordinated the campaign "For the full protection of the large predators, wolf and lynx" in Poland and a campaign for the protection of the entire Polish part of the primeval forest Białowieża as a national park (Białowieża National Park). In 1998 she was elected to the Ashoka Fellowship. From 2001 to 2004 she was head of the Polish census of lynxes and wolves. Large Carnivore Initiative For Europe
The Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe (LCIE) is a working group of the IUCN Commission on the Conservation of Species. and a Non-governmental organization. President of the LCIE is the Secretary of the IUCN Wolf Specialist Group Luigi Boitani. Its objective is to maintain and restore viable populations of large carnivores in coexistence with humans as an integral part of ecosystems and landscapes throughout Europe. History LCIE was founded in June 1995 by a coalition of scientists, land manangers, government officials und conservation groups (leading among them WWF Europe) from 17 European countries. The cause for the founding of LCIE was the critical situation of the Iberian lynx, whose population had dwindled to less than 100 adult individuals and was considered to be close to extinction. Ilka Reinhardt (born 1966 in the GDR) is a German biologist and wolf expert. She is together with Gesa Kluth Founder and director of LUPUS - Institute for Wolf Monitoring and Research in Germany and the Freundeskreis freilebender Wölfe. She was appointed by the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture as the wolf commissioner. Ilka Reinhardt works with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Naturschutzbund Deutschland. In Poland, the biologist Sabina Nowak has a similar position. Ilka Reinhardt and Sabina Nowak are members of the Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe and cooperate with the CEWolf Consortium. Gesa Kluth
Gesa Kluth (born 1970 near Göttingen) is a German biologist and wolf expert. She studied biology in Bremen and in 1996 she worked with a wolf pack in Estonia as part of her diploma thesis. After spending some time in Brandenburg, she is currently living in Oberlausitz in Saxony, where the first free-living wolf packs in Germany have settled. Gesa Kluth is regarded as a wolf expert in Germany. Together with her colleague Ilka Reinhardt she founded in January 2003 the today's LUPUS - Institute for Wolf Monitoring and Research in Germany in Spreewitz, north-west of the Military training area Oberlausitz, from where the re-spread of wolves in Germany took place. Gesa Kluth works together with the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the Naturschutzbund Deutschland and the Saxon State Ministry for Environment and Agriculture. Henryk Okarma (; born 12 November 1959) is a Polish biologist, professor of life sciences. His main areas of expertise are research on predatory mammals, especially wolf, lynx, wildcat, invasive species and research on hunting biology. He is an academic teacher at the Jagiellonian University, long-time director of the Institute of Wildlife Conservation of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
