Sabika Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa
Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa (; born in Muharraq in 1948) is the first wife and consort of the king of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She is the mother of Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Personal life Sheikha Sabika was born in Muharraq, Bahrain, in 1948 in the palace of her paternal grandfather, Sheikh Mohammed bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa. She was born to Sheikh Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al Khalifa and Sheikha Fatima bint Salman Al Khalifa. Al Khalifa was raised in Riffa with her maternal grandfather, Salman ibn Hamad Al Khalifa, who was the Hakim of Bahrain between 1941 and 1960. She studied in Bahraini schools, and attended specialized courses in the United Kingdom and the French Republic. The House of Khalifa () is the ruling family of the Kingdom of Bahrain. They profess Sunni Islam and belong to the Anizah tribe. Some members of this tribe joined the Utub alliance which migrated from Najd in central Arabia to Kuwait, then ruled all of Qatar, more specifically Al Zubarah, which they built and ruled over before settling in Bahrain in the early 17th century. Women's Rights In Bahrain
Women face widespread discrimination within Bahraini society and the country's political institutions. Women's rights have been a cornerstone of the political reforms initiated by Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King Hamad. The extension of equal political rights has been accompanied by a conscious drive to promote women to positions of authority within government. However, women in Bahrain continue to face gender inequality in many areas of life. Islam is the state religion in Bahrain. Due to an influx of immigrants and guest workers from India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, the overall percentage of Muslims has declined since the late 20th century. Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa (born 28 January 1950) is King of Bahrain since 1999. He is a member of the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty. Early life and education Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was born on 28 January 1950 in Riffa, Bahrain. His parents were Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then Crown Prince, and Hessa bint Salman Al Khalifa. After attending Manama secondary school in Bahrain, Hamad was sent to England to attend Applegarth College in Godalming, Surrey before taking a place at The Leys School in Cambridge. Hamad then underwent military training, first with the British Army at Mons Officer Cadet School at Aldershot in Hampshire, graduating in September 1968. Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa (1848 – 9 December 1932) was the ruler of Bahrain from 1869 until his death. His title was Hakim of Bahrain. He is one of the longest reigning monarchs of the region, a reign lasting 63 years.
