Sabana Grande De Boyá
Sabana Grande de Boyá is a municipality (''municipio'') of the Monte Plata province in the Dominican Republic. It includes the municipal districts (''distritos municipal'') of Gonzalo and Majagual. History It was founded by Enrique Bejo (Enriquillo), the Taino chief of Jaragua and hero of Bahoruco, after 14 years of struggle. Having managed to force the authorities of Santo Domingo to sign a peace treaty, he decided to retire to Boyá in 1533, where he later died. His remains are at the point where a temple was later built. The last Tainos on the island were exterminated in the town of Boyá and, therefore, it has been called the "last redoubt of the indigenous race" of Santo Domingo. Elly Antonio De La Cruz (born January 11, 2002) is a Dominican professional baseball shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB). Enriquillo
Enrique (1498–1535), best known as Enriquillo, was a Taíno people, Taíno cacique who rebelled against the Spaniards between 1519 and 1533. Enriquillo's rebellion is the best known rebellion of the early Caribbean period. He was born on the shores of Lake Jaragua (today Lake Enriquillo) and was part of the royal family of Jaragua. Enriquillo's aunt Anacaona was Queen of Jaragua, and his father Magiocatex was the crown prince. He is considered a hero in the modern day Dominican Republic for his resistance in favor of the indigenous peoples. Majagual, Monte Plata
Majagual is a small town in the province of Monte Plata, Dominican Republic. The population is approximately 1400. Many of its residents have immigrated abroad to the US and Europe but they still maintain a strong connection to the town and help the population that remain behind. Many of the town's young residents attend college in the capital of Santo Domingo, transportation is provided by the local government. The town is divided into 6 neighborhoods: Sector Deportivo, Higuerito, San Jose, Las Flores, Rinconsolo and El Grillo. The local economy is based on cattle ranching and dairy products. There used to be a farming communities, but the government took the land from the farmer and convert it into extension of the Haitises national park.
