SV Wiesbaden
SV Wiesbaden is a German football club based in Wiesbaden, Hesse. The team was disbanded in 1994 as the result of financial problems, but was rebuilt and eventually returned to the Hessenliga (V). Their home games are played in the Helmut-Schön-Sportpark. History A football section was founded within the gymnastics club ''Wiesbadener Turngesellschaft'' in 1899. In 1904 the footballers left the club and founded the ''Sportverein Wiesbaden 1899''. In its early years ''SVW'' was one of the strongest teams in the Taunus region and sent Otto Nicodemus to the national side in 1909 for his only cap. The club became one of the founding members of the '' Nordkreis-Liga'' in 1909, playing in this league until the outbreak of the First World War and winning the league championship in 1911. After the war however, the club had only limited successes, playing in the Kreisliga Hessen but never quite making it through to the German finals. The Verbandsliga Hessen-Mitte, until 2008 named ''Landesliga Hessen-Mitte'', is currently the sixth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fifth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fourth tier. The Hesse Cup (German: ''Hessenpokal'') is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football. The winner of the competition gains entry to the first round of the German Cup. History The Cup was established in 1945, after the end of the Second World War, in the state of Hessen, which then was part of the US occupation zone in Germany. The Hessen Cup is played annually. The Landesliga () is a tier of Association football, football in some states of the German football league system. In Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Hamburg, the Landesligas are set right below the Oberliga (football), Oberliga and therefore are the sixth tier. The German amateur football championship was a national football competition in Germany organized by the German Football Association (German: Deutscher Fußball-Bund; DFB) and in existence from 1950 to 1998. History Overview The championship was established in 1950 as a counterpart to the German football championship, which was open only to the winners of the tier-one Oberligas. To qualify for the German amateur championship, a club had to play in the highest amateur league of its regional football federation. The majority of these leagues were tier-three leagues. SV Wehen Wiesbaden is a German association football club based in Wiesbaden, Hesse. The club was previously known as ''SV Wehen'' but added ''Wiesbaden'' to its name during the summer of 2007.
