Koninklijke Sint-Truidense Voetbalvereniging (), commonly known as Sint-Truiden or STVV () or by their nickname De Kanaries (), is a Belgian professional football club located in the city of Sint-Truiden in Limburg. Sint-Truiden plays in the Belgian Pro League. Their best ranking was a second place in 1965–66. They also reached the final of the Belgian Cup twice. The club was founded in 1924. They are matricule number 373. The club colours are yellow and blue, hence their nickname ''De Kanaries'', meaning 'The Canaries'. They have played their home games at the Stayen since 1927. History The club was created in 1924 following the merger between FC Union and FC Goldstar, two clubs from Sint-Truiden. Wouter Vrancken
Wouter Vrancken (born 3 February 1979) is a Belgian football manager and a former defensive midfielder. He currently coaches Sint-Truidense after previously making his name at KV Mechelen and Genk. Playing career Wouter Vrancken started his playing career as a youth at lower division clubs, beginning at FC Oud Groot Gelmen, progressing through Concordia Duras, Sporting Aalst-Brustem and KSK Tongeren before ending up in the Belgian top flight with home-town club Sint-Truiden. During the build-up to the 1997-98 season, Vrancken moved on from the youths set-up into the Sint-Truiden first team at the age of 18. Vrancken made his professional debut on 13 September 1997, in the First Division against RWDM. Vrancken initially combined football with studying for a Bachelors in PE, but was soon urged by STVV coach Poll Peters to stop his studies and concentrate on his football career instead. 2023–24 Belgian Pro League
The 2023–24 Belgian Pro League (officially known as the Jupiler Pro League due to sponsorship reasons) was the 121st season of top-tier football in Belgium. Club Brugge were crowned champions for the 19th time in their history having come back from fourth at the start of the title play-offs. For the second time in three seasons, Union Saint-Gilloise finished top at the end of the regular season, but did not win the league. Stayen
Stayen is a football stadium in Sint-Truiden, Belgium. It is the home ground of K. Sint-Truidense V.V., STVV. The stadium holds 14,600 after its most recent rebuild. The original stadium was built in 1927. The name "Stayen" is a local dialect word for "Staden", an old quarter of the town on its western side. Between the 1950s and 2009 the word was normally written as "Staaien". One regularly applied soubriquet is "Hel van Stayen" (''"Hell of Stayen"''), used on behalf of top teams that suffer defeats in the stadium. The Stayen Hotel is built into the north side of the stadium: 20 of its rooms overlook the pitch. From February 2023, the Japanese company "Daio Wasabi Farm" acquired the naming rights of the stadium, and named it "Daio Wasabi Stayen Stadium". Belgian League Cup
The Belgian League Cup was a Belgian association football cup created in 1973. The competition was held from 1973 by eleven clubs wanting to increase professionalism in Belgian football but lasted only three seasons before being disbanded. The tournament was then revived the first time in 1986 for one season and finally a second time in 1998 for three seasons. In 2000, due to disagreements over television rights, combined with poor attendances and a lack of interest from the top clubs, the trophy was cancelled after the 2000–01 edition. At that time the winners of the tournament qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from , "between" and , " betting pool"),Most precisely, from (football pool); cf. originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition between European clubs. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. Starting in 1967, the tournament ended with a number of group winners (7 to 14 winners), who received cash prizes. When UEFA took on the tournament, it became a qualifier for the UEFA Cup, with 2 to 11 Intertoto winners advancing to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.
