''Leipzig Homicide (SOKO Leipzig)'' is a German crime drama television series first broadcast on 31 January 2001 on ZDF. More than 400 episodes have been screened since. On 12 November 2008, the first of a two-part crossover between ''SOKO Leipzig'' and British police procedural ''The Bill'', titled " Proof of Life", was aired, with the same version being shown on both ZDF and British television network ITV. ''Soko Leipzig'' is the second offshoot of '' SOKO München'', launched in 1978 under the name ''SOKO 5113''. ''SOKO München'' (until 2015: ''SOKO 5113'') is a German police procedural television series that first aired on 2 January 1978 on ZDF. "SOKO" is an abbreviation of the German word ''Sonderkommission'', which means "special investigative team". Production of the show ended in 2020, after forty-two years. Crossover On 3 April 2013, five SOKO teams were brought together for a five-part special titled ''SOKO – Der Prozess''. In it, the teams from Munich, SOKO Köln, Cologne, Leipzig Homicide, Leipzig, Stuttgart Homicide, Stuttgart, and SOKO Wismar, Wismar have to solve the murder of a police officer. ''The Bill'' is a British police procedural television series, broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV from 16 October 1984 until 31 August 2010. The programme originated from a one-off drama, "Woodentop (The Bill), Woodentop" (part of the ''Storyboard'' series), broadcast on 16 August 1983. ITV were so impressed with the drama that a full series was commissioned. The title originates from "Old Bill", a List of police-related slang terms, slang term for the police and show creator Geoff McQueen's original title for the series. "Proof of Life" () is a two-part storyline from the long-running Thames Television series ''The Bill'' to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its pilot, " Woodentop". Both episodes came as part of a crossover with the German police drama ''SOKO Leipzig''. It serves as the 79th and 80th episode of ''The Bill'' 24th series, and as the season premiere for season 10 of ''Leipzig Homicide''. While ''The Bill'' rendition aired in November 2008, ''Leipzig Homicide'' did not air until September 2009. The episodes were filmed in English, and dubbed into German for broadcast on ZDF.
