SNCF Class Y 9000
The SNCF Class Y 9000 is the new designation for modernized and re-engined Y7100 and Y7400 shunters. The refurbishment was undertaken by a consortium consisting of SNCF, Socofer and Voith Turbo. Socofer refurbished 22 full locomotives at its Tours Tours ( ; ) is the largest city in the region of Centre-Val de Loire, France. Socofer is the name for the railway construction company that before 1968 was known as Établissements Billard. History Socofer, a French company established in 1965, acquired the railcar fabrication business of Billard the same year. The Billard mechanical shop was founded in 1920 and their completed their first rolling stock two years later. SNCF Class Y 7400
The Y 7400 class of small shunters is France's most numerous with 488 locomotives in the production build. The first 120 were built by Société Nouvell des Établissements Decauville Aîne, Decauville, with further batches built by De Dietrich (105) and Locotracteurs Gaston Moyse, Moyse (263). They have the 0-4-0 ("B") wheel arrangement, 150 kW diesel engines and mechanical transmission. They can be found all over the French network. During 1959 SNCF Class Y 7100, Y 7192 was converted to mechanical transmission and renumbered as Y 7001. This locomotive was the prototype for the Y7400 class. Operators In addition to the locomotives operated by SNCF, Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens, RATP have two Y 7400 class locomotives built in 1969 by Moyse.
