SNCF Class BB 8700
The Class BB 8700 electric locomotives were rebuilt from the BB 8500 (or BB 88500) as the first subseries for the growth in Maurienne. Indeed, while the CC 6500 participated in this task, the reorganization of traction in Maurienne had led them to other services. Since the BB 8500 had been restricted for some years to , as a result of their poor suspension and for the comfort of the drivers, it was decided to re-use twenty for Maurienne. These were renumbered as Class BB 8700. Conversion The conversion consisted particularly in the modification and expansion of the driving cabs at one end, by removing an air compressor. The BB 8700 were permanently coupled to run in pairs, with the unmodified cabs remaining in the middle, at the permanent coupling. Limited to and on a limited route, their discomfort was more bearable for the driving personnel. An electric locomotive is a locomotive powered by electricity from overhead lines, a third rail or on-board energy storage such as a battery or a supercapacitor. The SNCF Class CC 6500 is a class of 1.5 kV DC electric locomotives. The CC 6500 was, together with the and diesel CC 72000, the first generation of the 'Nez Cassé' family of locomotives and designed for hauling express trains with speeds up to but also used for heavy freight trains. SNCF Class BB 7200
The SNCF Class BB 7200 is a 1.5 kV DC electric locomotive operated by the SNCF in France. It is the DC version of the ' Nez Cassé' family of locomotives built between 1976 and 1985 by Alstom. They are rated for of continuous power. SNCF Class BB 15000 is the AC version while the Class BB 22200 is a dual-voltage version. Another relative is the NS Class 1600 operated in the Netherlands, a DC locomotive based on the BB 7200. Intended primarily for passenger service, increasing numbers are being allocated for freight service with lower-geared bogies as passenger services are taken from locomotive-hauled coaches by TGV services. BB 7200 operations are limited to the French 1.5 kV DC electrified network in southeastern France, from Paris southwards. The SNCF Class BB 36000 locomotives (named ''Astride'') are a class of triple voltage 4 axle twin bogie electric locomotives built by GEC-Alsthom (later Alstom) between 1996 and 2001 for SNCF. Sixty units were built, with thirty units later converted to subclasses ''36200'', and ''36300'' - locomotives with additional safety equipment for cross border trains between France and Italy. As of 2012 there are 30 units of the original 36000 class and 30 units of the 36300 subtype. Locomotives operating in Italy have been given the Italian designation ''FS Class E436''. Maurienne ( frp, Môrièna) is one of the provinces of Savoy, corresponding to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in France.
