SLM Corporation
SLM Corporation (commonly known as Sallie Mae; originally the Student Loan Marketing Association) is a publicly traded U.S. corporation that provides consumer banking. Its nature has changed dramatically since it was set up in the early 1970s; initially a government entity that serviced federal education loans, it then became private and began offering private student loans. The company's primary business is creating, servicing, and collecting private education loans. The company also provides online tools and resources for college planning. Sallie Mae previously originated federally guaranteed student loans under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and worked as a servicer and collector of federal student loans on behalf of the Department of Education. The company now offers private education loans and manages more than $12.97 billion in assets. On April 30, 2014, Sallie Mae spun off its loan servicing operation and most of its loan portfolio into a separate, p ...

Swiss Locomotive And Machine Works
Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (German Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik; French Société Suisse pour la Construction de Locomotives et de Machines; or for both, SLM) was a railway equipment manufacturer based in Winterthur in Switzerland. Much of the world's mountain railway equipment was constructed by the company. History The company was founded in 1871 by the British engineer Charles Brown (British engineer), Charles Brown. SLM built both steam locomotive, steam and electric locomotives, including the Crocodile (locomotive), crocodile type. From 1992, SLM returned to producing steam locomotives designed around advanced steam technology principles. This included rebuilding DR Class 52.80 locomotive number 52 8055. In 1998, the cog-railway division was sold to Stadler Rail, and the engineering division, via Adtranz, to Bombardier Transportation. The remaining business was renamed Sulzer-Winpro AG and as part of a management buyout in 2001, was renamed Winpro AG ...

SLM International
CCM Hockey is a Canadian brand of ice hockey equipment owned by Altor Equity Partners through its portfolio company Sport Maska Inc. The history of the brand traces to 1905, when Canada Cycle and Motor Limited, founded in 1899, began manufacturing hockey equipment as a secondary business. After Canada Cycle went bankrupt in 1982, it sold off its cycling and hockey divisions to separate owners. The hockey division was acquired by Sport Maska, a Quebec-based manufacturer of jerseys. In 1991, Sport Maska was placed under the ownership of a new holding company called SLM International. By 1998, SLM's portfolio of brands had grown to include Canadien, CCM, Heaton, Jofa, Koho, and Titan, and in 1999 SLM changed its name to The Hockey Company. In 2004, Reebok purchased The Hockey Company, but a year later was itself purchased by Adidas. In 2017, Adidas sold all of its hockey operations and brand rights, which remained consolidated under Sport Maska, to the private equity firm Birch Hi ...

Selective Laser Melting
Selective laser melting (SLM) is one of many proprietary names for a metal Additive Manufacturing, additive manufacturing (AM) technology that uses a bed of powder with a source of heat to create metal parts. Also known as direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), the ASTM standard term is powder bed fusion (PBF). PBF is a rapid prototyping, 3D printing, or additive manufacturing technique designed to use a high power-density laser to melt and fuse metallic powders together. History Selective laser melting is one of many proprietary powder bed fusion technologies, started in 1995 at the Fraunhofer Institute ILT in Aachen, Germany. A research project run by Wilhelm Meiners, Konrad Wissenbach, and Andres Gasser resulted in the so-called basic ILT SLM patent. The ASTM International F42 standards committee has grouped selective laser melting into the category of "laser sintering", although this is an acknowledged misnomer because the process fully melts the metal into a solid homogeneou ...

Spatial Light Modulator
A spatial light modulator (SLM) is a device that can control the intensity, phase, or polarization of light in a spatially varying manner. A simple example is an overhead projector transparency. Usually when the term SLM is used, it means that the transparency can be controlled by a computer. SLMs are primarily marketed for image projection, displays devices, and maskless lithography. SLMs are also used in optical computing and holographic optical tweezers. Usually, an SLM modulates the intensity of the light beam. However, it is also possible to produce devices that modulate the phase of the beam or both the intensity and the phase simultaneously. It is also possible to produce devices that modulate the polarization of the beam, and modulate the polarization, phase, and intensity simultaneously. SLMs are used extensively in holographic data storage setups to encode information into a laser beam similarly to the way a transparency does for an overhead projector. They can ...

Standard Litre Per Minute
The standard liter per minute (SLM or SLPM) is a unit of (molar or) mass flow rate of a gas at standard conditions for temperature and pressure (STP), which is most commonly practiced in the United States, whereas European practice revolves around the normal litre per minute (NLPM). Until 1982, STP was defined as a temperature of 273.15 kelvin (unit), K (0 °C, 32 °F) and an absolute pressure of 101.325 kPa (1 Atmosphere (unit), atm). Since 1982, STP is defined as a temperature of 273.15 K (0 °C, 32 °F) and an absolute pressure of 100 kPa (1 bar (unit), bar). Conversions between each volume flow metric are calculated using the following formulas: Prior to 1982, : 1\, \mathrm = (.001/60)~\mathrm/\mathrm = 1\, \mathrm \cdot \frac \cdot \frac = 1\, \mathrm \cdot \frac \cdot \frac Post 1982, : 1\, \mathrm = (.001/60)~\mathrm/\mathrm = 1\, \mathrm \cdot \frac \cdot \frac = 1\, \mathrm \cdot \frac \cdot \frac : 1\, \mathrm = 1\ ...

Small Language Model
Small language models (SLMs) are artificial intelligence language models designed for human natural language processing including language and text generation. Unlike large language models (LLMs), small language models are much smaller in scale and scope. Typically, an LLM's number of training parameters is in the hundreds of billions, with some models even exceeding a trillion parameters. The size of any LLM is vast because it contains a large amount of information, which allows it to generate better content. However, this requires enormous computational power, making it impossible for an individual to train a large language model using just a single computer and GPU. Small language models, on the other hand, use far fewer parameters, typically ranging from a few million to a few billion. This make them more feasible to train and host in resource-constrained environments such as a single computer or even a mobile device. See also * Edge computing Edge computing is a distribu ...

Š-L-M
Shin-Lamedh- Mem is a triconsonantal root of many Semitic words (many of which are used as names). The root meaning translates to "whole, safe, intact, unharmed, to go free, without blemish". Its earliest known form is in the name of Shalim, the ancient god of dusk of Ugarit. Derived from this are meanings of "to be safe, secure, at peace", hence "well-being, health" and passively "to be secured, pacified, submitted". * Central Semitic ''Š-L-M'' **, ''S-L-M'' *** **, ''Š-L-M'' **Canaanite: ''Š-L-M'' (cf. Situational Leadership Model
The Situational Leadership Model is the idea that effective leaders adapt their style to each situation. No one style is appropriate for all situations. Leaders may use a different style in each situation, even when working with the same team, followers or employees. Most models use two dimensions on which leaders can adapt their style: *''"Task Behavior"'': Whether the leader is giving more direction or giving more autonomy. *''"Relationship Behavior"'': Whether the leader is working closely with the follower or more at arms length. Theory As explained by Dr. Paul Hersey, the creator of the Situational Leadership framework, ""There is no such thing as Situational Leadership Theory! A theory gives you something interesting to think about. Situational Leadership is a model. A model is a repeatable framework that provides you with a roadmap on what to do." The Situational Leadership Model was created by Dr. Paul Hersey and Dr. Ken Blanchard while working on the text book, ' ...
