Sinop is a city in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. The fourth-largest city in the state, its population in 2022 is estimated at 196,312 inhabitants, placing Sinop in 155th place in Brazil. It has an area of 3194.339 km². A Sivam radar has been installed for monitoring the Amazon Basin. Also Embrapa has a branch in Sinop, the only one in the state of Mato Grosso. It is known as the Capital of Nortão, a major city of northern Mato Grosso. Sinop Nuclear Power Plant
The Sinop Nuclear Power Plant () is a proposed nuclear plant in Turkey located at Sinop on the Black Sea. If constructed, it will be the country's second nuclear power plant after Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. As of 2025, the Ministry of Energy stated that the project was like to be awarded to Rosatom, right after Akkuyu's completition. History The deal for the project on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis was signed between Turkish Prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on May 3, 2013. The project would have been carried out by Atmea, a joint venture consortium of Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and French Areva. Turkey, being geographically on a highly active earthquake-prone zone, relies on top-level safety know-how and experience of Japanese experts against earthquakes. The Battle of Sinop, or the Battle of Sinope, was a naval battle that took place on 30 November 1853 between Imperial Russia and the Ottoman Empire during the opening phase of the Crimean War (1853–1856). It took place at Sinop, Turkey, Sinop, a sea port on the southern shore of the Black Sea (the northern shore of Anatolian Turkey). A Russian squadron (naval), squadron attacked and decisively defeated an Ottoman squadron anchored in Sinop's harbor.
