Sequence Saturation Mutagenesis
Sequence saturation mutagenesis (SeSaM) is a chemo-enzymatic random mutagenesis method applied for the directed evolution of proteins and enzymes. It is one of the most common saturation mutagenesis techniques. In four PCR-based reaction steps, phosphorothioate nucleotides are inserted in the gene sequence, cleaved and the resulting fragments elongated by universal or degenerate nucleotides. These nucleotides are then replaced by standard nucleotides, allowing for a broad distribution of nucleic acid mutations spread over the gene sequence with a preference to transversions and with a unique focus on consecutive point mutations, both difficult to generate by other mutagenesis techniques. The technique was developed by Professor Ulrich Schwaneberg at Jacobs University Bremen and RWTH Aachen University. Technology, development and advantages SeSaM has been developed in order to overcome several of the major limitations encountered when working with standard mutagenesis methods ba ...

SESAM (FEM)
Sesam is a software suite for structural and hydrodynamic analysis of ships and offshore structures. It is based on the displacement formulation of the Finite Element Method. The first version of Sesam was developed at NTH, now Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige Universitet (''NTNU Trondheim''), in the mid-1960s. Sesam was bought by Det Norske Veritas, now DNV, in 1968 and commercialized under the name SESAM-69 in 1970. Sesam was thus one of the first major structural analysis tools based on the Finite Element Method available and when it came to capability of analysing large and complex structures it outclassed all. In the beginning it was used for analysis of ships, in particular oil tankers (for which a comparison of analysis results with measurements on the real ship was made to confirm the accuracy of the method and tool ) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. With the development of offshore oil fields in the North Sea in the 1970s the use of Sesam for fixed offshore pla ...

Sesam (search Engine)
Sesam was a Scandinavian internet search engine developed by the media corporation Schibsted. It was available both in a Norwegian and Swedish version and was launched on 1 November 2005. By 2007 Sesam.no had 480,000 unique users and was among the 12 largest web sites in Norway. Because of Schibsteds dominant position as a newspaper owner in Norway, the search engine has specialized in news search, including the ability to search through all published articles since 1983. The search engine was developed in cooperation with Fast Search & Transfer. In November 2006 "Sesam.se" was Sweden's leading search engine, which at the time not only permitted its users to look up information on the Internet but also gave the possibility to browse through pictures, news and the encyclopedia and much more. They later on also went into collaboration with the video service blinkx. It has been built on top of an open sourced platform specialised for federated search Federated search retrieves i ...

Semiconductor Saturable-absorber Mirror
Semiconductor saturable-absorber mirrors (SESAMs) are a type of saturable absorber used in mode locking lasers. Semiconductor saturable absorbers were used for laser mode-locking as early as 1974 when p-type germanium was used to mode lock a laser which generated pulses of around 500 picoseconds. Modern SESAMs are III-V semiconductor single quantum well (SQW) or multiple quantum wells grown on semiconductor distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs). They were initially used in a Resonant Pulse Modelocking (RPM) scheme as starting mechanisms for Ti:Sapphire lasers which employed KLM as a fast saturable absorber. RPM is another coupled-cavity mode-locking technique. Different from APM lasers which employ non-resonant Kerr-type phase nonlinearity for pulse shortening, RPM employs the amplitude nonlinearity provided by the resonant band filling effects of semiconductors. SESAMs were soon developed into intracavity saturable absorber devices because of more inherent simplicity with this stru ...
