SA-12
The S-300 (NATO reporting name SA-10 Grumble) is a series of long-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the former Soviet Union. It was produced by NPO Almaz for the Soviet Air Defence Forces to defend against air raids and cruise missiles. It is used by Russia, Ukraine, and other former Eastern Bloc countries, along with Bulgaria and Greece. It is also used by China, Iran, and other countries in Asia. The system is fully automated, though manual observation and operation are also possible. Each targeting radar provides target designation for the central command post. The command post compares the data received from the targeting radars and filters out false targets. The central command post has both active and passive target detection modes. Missiles have a maximum range of from the command post. The successor to the S-300 is the S-400 (NATO reporting name ''SA-21 Growler''), which entered service on 28 April 2007. NPO Novator
NPO Novator (Novator Design Bureau, OKB Novator, OKB Lyulyev; ) is a Russian company that designs long-range anti-aircraft missiles. It was established in 1947 as OKB-8 in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk, became independent in 1991, and then became part of the Almaz-Antey conglomerate. It is perhaps best known for designing the 9M82 and 9M83 missiles of the S-300V (SA-12 'Gladiator') SAM system. History The Kalinin Machine-Building Plant (now JSC MZiK) was a major part of the Soviet war effort in World War II, producing 20,000 anti-aircraft guns. After the war ended, Lev Lyulyev was promoted to Chief Designer of Factory No. 8 and he started work on heavy guns such as the KS-19 and KS-30. In 1947 he formed the Chief Designer Bureau (OGK) - later Experimental Design Bureau (OKB)-8 - of the Ministry of Aviation Industry, for the development of heavy anti-aircraft guns. JSC Kalinin Machine-Building Plant, ZiK or MZiK for short () is a Russian industrial company known for producing artillery and vehicles. It is now part of the Almaz-Antey holding company. History Founded in 1866 in St. Petersburg by a decree of Russian emperor Alexander II as an artillery workshop, it was later enlarged into a state factory of field and later on anti-aircraft artillery. In 1918 the factory was moved into Moscow Region, in 1941 to Yekaterinburg (former Sverdlovsk), where it's located up to now. Soviet Air Defence Forces
The Soviet Air Defence Forces (; ) was the air defence branch of the Soviet Armed Forces.
