S1 (classification)
S1, SB1, SM1 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability. The classifications cover athletes with "very severe coordination problems in four limbs or have no use of their legs, trunk, hands and minimal use of their shoulders only". Swimmers in this class have a variety of different disabilities including cerebral palsy. Swimming events available for people in this class include the 50m and 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 150m Individual Medley events. Definition This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. The Paralympic sports comprise all the sports contested in the Summer Paralympic Games, Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. 2016 Summer Paralympics
The 2016 Summer Paralympics (), the 15th Summer Paralympic Games, were a major international multi-sport event for disabled sports, athletes with disabilities governed by the International Paralympic Committee, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016. Christos Tampaxis (born 26 June 1977) is a Greek swimmer. Itzhak Mamistvalov
Itzhak Mamistvalov is an Israeli Paralympic swimmer. Mamistvalov was born with cerebral palsy, and uses his right hand only when swimming. Classified S1 (classification), S1, the class for swimmers with the most severe disabilities, he competes in S1 and S2 events. Mamistvalov represented Israel at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, where he won two gold medals and one silver, and set two Paralympic records. In August 2008, Mamistvalov was involved in a car accident. His car went off the road into a crowded bus stop and killed two people and also severely injured a third person, causing her to lose her right arm. Because of the accident he missed the 2008 Summer Paralympics. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of movement disorders that appear in early childhood. Signs and symptoms vary among people and over time, but include poor coordination, spasticity, stiff muscles, Paresis, weak muscles, and tremors.
