S. P. Seenivasagam
Sri Padhmaraja Seenivasagam (1918–4 July 1975), also known by his initials SP, was a three-term MP in Malaysia who served as leader of the People's Progressive Party. Along with his brother Dharma Raja (DR), SP Seenivasagam was known as a formidable lawyer and parliamentarian in the formative years of Malaya after independence. He led the PPP to a sweeping win in the Ipoh municipal council elections in 1962, becoming the council's president. At this time the PPP held sway in Ipoh, while the Socialist Front was dominant in George Town and Malacca. However the federal government led by Umno then banned local council elections. Following the May 13 racial riots and the death of his brother in 1969, SP made the decision to bring PPP into the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition. He lost his parliamentary and state seats in 1974 when he contested under the BN banner. He was then appointed to the Dewan Negara in 1975 but passed away three months later. 1964 Malaysian General Election
General elections were held in Malaysia on Saturday, 25 April 1964. It elected members of the expanded Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Malaysia, after the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 whereby the Federation of Malaya was superseded by Malaysia with the additions of the Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah. Voting took place in 104 out of 159 parliamentary constituencies, each electing one Member of Parliament (MP). State elections also took place in 282 state constituencies in 11 out of 14 states of Malaysia on the same day, each electing one Member of the Legislative Assemblies (MLA). The result was a victory for the Alliance Party, which won 89 of the 104 seats with a turnout of 80%. Two Alliance candidates were returned uncontested. Sultan Idris Al-Mutawakil Alallahi Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Shah Kaddasullah, CMG ( Jawi: ; 17 August 1924 – 31 January 1984) was the 33rd Sultan of Perak reigning from 5 January 1963 until his death on 31 January 1984. He was the son of Sultan Iskandar Shah. Early life and education He was born on 17 August 1924 at the Istana Negara in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He was the second son of Sultan Iskandar and Raja Puteh Umi Kalsom. His father was a son of Sultan Iskandar Shah and a brother of Sultan Abdul Jalil. His oldest brother died when he was 40 days old.
