S.C.U.M
S.C.U.M were a South East London-based post-punk/art rock band. Its members were Thomas Cohen (vocals), Bradley Baker (machines, press), Samuel Kilcoyne (keyboards), Huw Webb (bass), and Melissa Rigby (drums). The band previously included Ruaridh Connellan (drums) and Joseph Williams (bass, media). S.C.U.M took their name from Valerie Solanas' manifesto, SCUM Manifesto, an ironic reference to the all-male band before Connellan's dismissal and replacement by Rigby.'' SCUM Manifesto
''SCUM Manifesto'' is a radical feminist manifesto by Valerie Solanas, published in 1967. It argues that men have ruined the world, and that it is up to women to fix it. To achieve this goal, it suggests the formation of SCUM, an organization dedicated to overthrowing society and eliminating the male sex. The ''Manifesto'' has been described as a satire or parody, especially due to its parallels with Freud's theory of femininity, though this is disputed, even by Solanas herself. The term "SCUM" appeared on the cover of the first edition from Olympia Press as "S.C.U.M." and was said to stand for "Society for Cutting Up Men". Solanas objected, insisting that it was not an acronym, although the expanded term appeared in a ''Village Voice'' ad she had written in 1967. ''Again into Eyes'' is the debut album by Southeast London-based art rock band S.C.U.M, released on 11 September 2011 by Mute. The album was produced by Ken and Jolyon Thomas, whose notable production credits (individually and together) include David Bowie, Public Image Ltd, Sigur Rós and Psychic TV. The name ''Again into Eyes'' is taken from a lyric from the final track on the album; Whitechapel. The song Paris is a rerecording of a track originally featured on the band's SIGNALS project. Again into Eyes marked a more commercial sound than had previously been heard on pieces such as the SIGNALS project and featured more audible lyrical passages and vocal melodies than any previous release by the band. Underage Festival
The Underage Festival was a music festival in Victoria Park, London that was open only to those between 13 and 17. The festival took place at the beginning of August each year. There were five main stages: the Converse Century Main Stage, the ''NME'' Stage, the Topman New Music Stage, the Domino Stage (aptly named the "Domino 15th Anniversary Stage" for the label's 15th anniversary of creation in 2008), and the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage. As well, some of the smaller features included the Habbo Dj Tent, the CM Tower Hamlets Music Space Stage, and the Artrocker Signing Tent. The 2008 event also included a Myspace bus, where secret sets and interviews with bands took place. Public Image Ltd (abbreviated and stylized as PiL) are an English post-punk band (and incorporated limited company) formed by singer John Lydon (previously known as the singer of Sex Pistols), guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker in May 1978. The group's personnel has changed frequently over the years; Lydon has been the sole constant member. Following Lydon's departure from the Sex Pistols in January 1978, he sought a more experimental "anti- rock" project and formed PiL. That year PiL released their debut '' First Issue'' (1978), creating an abrasive, bass-heavy sound that drew on dub, noise, progressive rock and disco. All Tomorrow's Parties was an organisation based in London that promoted music festivals, concerts and records throughout the world for over ten years. It was founded by Barry Hogan in 2001 in preparation for the first All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, the line-up of which was picked by Mogwai and took place at Pontins, Camber Sands, England. Named after the song " All Tomorrow's Parties" by the Velvet Underground, the festival exhibited a tendency towards post-rock, indie rock, avant-garde music, and underground hip hop, along with more traditional rock fare presented in smaller venues than typical stadium performances. It was at first a sponsorship-free festival where the organisers and artists stay in the same accommodation as the fans.
