Rob Borbidge
Robert Edward Borbidge (born 12 August 1954) is a former Australian politician who served as the 35th Premier of Queensland from 1996 to 1998. He was the leader of the Queensland branch of the National Party, and was the last member of that party to serve as premier. His term as premier was contemporaneous with the rise of the One Nation Party of Pauline Hanson, which would see him lose office within two years. Early life Borbidge was born in the town of Ararat, Victoria in 1954. His parents owned a sheep property and were attracted to Queensland by Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen's abolition of death duties, moving to the Gold Coast. He attended The Southport School and worked in his family motel business. Russell Cooper
Theo Russell Cooper (born 4 February 1941) is a former Australian National Party politician. He was Premier of Queensland for a period of 73 days, from 25 September 1989 to 7 December 1989. His loss at the state election of 1989 ended 32 years of continuous National Party rule over Queensland. Biography Cooper, a cattle breeder, followed the customary path to politics in the National Party, becoming involved in the Bendemere Shire Council before being elected for the seat of Roma in 1983. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). Peter McKechnie
Peter Richard McKechnie (9 February 1941 – 26 May 2011) was an Australian politician. He was born in Goondiwindi to Henry McKechnie and Heather May, ''née'' Coulton. He worked as a station hand from 1957 to 1958 and a property manager from 1961 to 1968 before becoming a grazier in Charters Towers. He married Jeanette Ruth Morwood on 23 May 1964, with whom he had two children. In April 1974 he became electoral secretary to his father, who was the Country Party member for Carnarvon in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. When his father retired at the election that year, Peter McKechnie was elected as his successor. Bob Gibbs (Australian Politician)
Robert James Gibbs (born 3 November 1946) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1977 to 1999, representing Wolston until 1992 and Bundamba thereafter. Born in Brisbane on 3 November 1946, Gibbs was a boilermaker before his election and was an organiser for the Miscellaneous Workers' Union and the Labor Party. He was Assistant State Secretary of the party from 1974 to 1976. Following his election he moved directly to the Labor front bench, serving as spokesman for various portfolios until the party won government in 1989. He was minister for Tourism, Sport and Racing in the Goss Government, moving to Primary Industries and Racing in July 1995. Gerald Edward "Tony" Fitzgerald (born 26 November 1941) is a former Australian judge, who presided over the Fitzgerald Inquiry. The report from the inquiry led to the resignation of the Premier of Queensland Joh Bjelke-Petersen, and the jailing of several ministers and a police commissioner. He was the youngest person to be appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia. Early life Tony Fitzgerald was born in a cottage at Sandgate, Queensland. Michael John Ahern (born 2 June 1942) is a former Queensland National Party politician who was Premier of Queensland from December 1987 to September 1989. Patrick "Pat" Comben AM (born 3 May 1950) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Weymouth in Dorset and was raised on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, attending the Portland Secondary Modern School. Leaving school at 16 he migrated by himself to Australia where worked initially as a farm hand, labourer and stockman.
