Rıza Maksut İşman
Rıza Maksut İşman (1915 in Istanbul – 30 December 2004 in İzmir) was a Turkish athlete. Biography İşman started sports through cycling. He has many medals in track and field. He has trained many athletes, including Cahit Önel. He has been on the athletics teams of Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray clubs. Achievements * 1935 - Ranked first in National Championship at 5000m in 16:51.4 and at 10000m in 35:15.1. * 1938 - Ran 1500m in Taksim in 4:11.2 which remained the Turkish record until 1948. * 1939 - Ranked first in National Championship at 5000m in 16:08.3. * 1940 - Participated in the 11th Balkan Games in Istanbul, where athletes from Turkey, Greece and Yugoslavia have competed. He won the 800m in 2:01.2. * 1948 - He competed for the Turkish team in 800m (2:01.1), 1500m and 4 × 400 m relay in the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London. 1975 World Association of Veteran Athletes Championships is the first in a series of World Outdoor Championships (also called World Masters Track and Field Championships). The first international athletics (track and field) competitions for older athletes had taken place in 1972, when the United States Masters International Track Team (USMITT) and the Canadian Masters International Track Team (CMITT) organized a tour of Europe along with Australian and European athletes. The minimum age limit for this tour was 40 years, all men, with athletes divided into 10-year age groups called Veterans (now called Masters). This tour was called the "Olympic Tour" since it coincided with the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Ruhi Sarıalp (December 15, 1924 – March 3, 2001) was a Turkish track and field athlete, who competed mainly in the triple jump. He was born in Manisa. Background He competed for Turkey in the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London, Great Britain in the triple jump, where he won the bronze medal with a mark of 15.02 m. He started athletics during his education at the military high school in Konya. In 1945, he broke the Turkish record in triple jump. After his bronze medal jump at the Olympics, he won another bronze medal at the 1950 European Athletics Championships in Brussels, Belgium. He became so the first ever track and field athlete from Turkey to win a medal at the Olympics and the European Championships.
