Rīgas Zeļļi
Rīgas Zeļļi is Latvian professional basketball team that is based in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in the summer of 2023. History News of the planned team began appearing in April 2023 with Kristaps Janičenoks voicing support for their inclusion in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. The team was intended as a privately financed club with key sponsors including Riga Technical University, Betsafe, Sportland, Dienas Bizness, Sporta Avīze, and Cēsu pilsētas sporta skola identified. On July 13, 2023, it was announced that a new team named Rīgas Zeļļi will take part in Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, Latvian Basketball League and Latvian Basketball Cup. Its president is sports manager Edgars Buļs and former player Artūrs Šēnhofs is taking the role of a general manager. Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (, ); known as Optibet Latvian-Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, is the top-tier men's basketball league in Latvia and Estonia. The competition was introduced in 2018 and is organised by the Estonian Basketball Association and the Latvian Basketball Association. History Following the demise of the Baltic Basketball League, the LEBL was established in 2018 when the Latvijas Basketbola līga (LBL) and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) largely merged. In its 2018–19 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, inaugural season, 15 teams participated in the league. After a Final Four is played to determine the winner of the league, there are playoffs to decide the national champions of Latvia and Estonia. Arena Riga
Xiaomi Arena, formerly known as Arena Riga () is an indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 and was opened on 15 February 2006. It was built to be used as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship, the other being Skonto Arena. The arena was designed by the Canadian company Stadium Consultants International ( SCI Architects) and Latvian firms SIA Merks and SIA Nams. In 2025, as part of a partnership agreement between Arena Riga's management and Chinese electronics company Xiaomi, the arena was rebranded as the Xiaomi Arena as part of a naming rights deal. Rolands Freimanis (born 21 January 1988) is a Latvian professional basketball player who plays for the Rīgas Zeļļi of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League. He plays at the power forward and center positions. Professional career Born in Gulbene, Latvia, Freimanis started his career with ASK Rīga where he played until 2008. For the 2008–09 season he went to BK VEF Rīga. After one season there his contract was bought-out by CB Sevilla as he spent next season playing for their farm-club Qalat Cajasol. Krišs Helmanis
Krišs Helmanis (born April 7, 2002) is a Latvian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Rīgas Zeļļi. He plays at center position. Professional career During his youth, he trained and played in the DSN (Daugava Sports Hall) system of the Riga Basketball School (Basketbola skola "Rīga") in the Latvian Youth Basketball League (LJBL), where his coach was Raivo Otersons, who was also Andris Biedriņš' first coach. Beach Volleyball
Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two to four players each on a sand court divided by a net. Similar to indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent's side of the court. Each team also works together to prevent the opposing team from grounding the ball on their side of the court. Teams are allowed up to three touches to return the ball across the net, and individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively except after a touch off an attempted block. Aleksandrs Samoilovs (born April 6, 1985) is a Latvian beach volleyball player. Samoilovs and teammate Mārtiņš Pļaviņš, with whom he partnered since 2004, represented Latvia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
