Røvær is an island group in Haugesund Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The islands lie off the mainland shore about northwest of the town of Haugesund. There is regular express boat service between Røvær, the neighboring island of Feøy, and the town of Haugesund. Most island residents also own a private boat and have a car parked in Haugesund that they use on the mainland. The ferry boats have capacity to take one car on board; a direct route between Røvær and Haugesund takes 25 minutes each way. The Røvær islands have about one hundred permanent residents (2014), as well as seasonal residents and visitors who rent vacation homes, stay at Røvær Seahouse (''Røvær Sjøhus'') or the newer Røvær Culture Hotel (''Røvær Kulturhotell''). History The lighthouse was established in 1892 and automated in 1975. The lighthouse was listed as a protected site in 1998. The lighthouse sits about northwest of the town of Haugesund. The tall, massive, round, stone tower is painted red. A two-story lighthouse keeper's house adjoins the lighthouse. The lower story of the house is stone and the upper story is wood. At the top of the lighthouse, at an elevation of above sea level, there is a white, red, or green light (depending on direction) that emits an isophase pattern of two seconds on and two seconds off. Feøy
Feøy is a small island group in Karmøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island group lies west of the town of Haugesund and the island of Karmøy, southeast of the islands of Røvær, and northeast of the island of Utsira. The island has 49 permanent residents, plus a number of seasonal residents and visitors who rent vacation homes. The permanent residents who are not retired support themselves either through sheep farming, fishing, or by commuting to jobs on the mainland.
