Rødding
Rødding (german: Rödding) is a town with a population of 2,712 (1 January 2022) in Southern Denmark. It is located in Vejen municipality in Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula. History The area around Rødding was first inhabited around 3000 years ago, and was dotted with huts and burrows on the outskirts of the Farris Forest. The region was historically impoverished. This is evidenced by the city's original church which, due to the lack of resources at the time, is considerably smaller and simpler than many of the neighboring towns' churches. In 1844 Rødding Højskole was built in the town. It was the first højskole, and remains the world's oldest folk high school. In 1864, After the Battle of Dybbøl, Rødding came under Prussian control and the town became the seat of the northern region of Schleswig. Lauritz Petersen Aakjær
Lauritz Petersen Aakjær (26 May 1883 – April 17, 1959) was a Danish architect in Jutland and exponent of the Heimatschutz style. Biography Lauritz Petersen Aakjær was born in Vester Lindet near Gram, Denmark. He completed a basic architectural education at Baugewerkschule Eckernförde in Eckernförde. Employed by the architect H. W. Schmidt in Hamburg, he became an independent architect and master builder in Rødding in 1909, where the majority of his works are, including Rødding School (built in 1912). From 1920 to 1933 he designed 26 detached homes in Rødding and Gram, and two in Haderslev. Jakob Knudsen
Jakob Christian Lindberg Knudsen (14 September 1858 – 21 January 1917) was a Danish author, educator and clergyman. Biography Jakob Knudsen was born in Rødding, in the south of Denmark. Knudsen spent much of his childhood at Aggersborg in Hanherred. In his youth, he was largely home schooled by his parents who followed the spiritual principals of Grundtvig. In 1862, the family moved to Dalum, where his father was a teacher at Christen Kold Folk High School. In 1872, the family moved to Lunderskov where his father served the parishes of Jordrup and Lejrskov. From 1875 to 1881, Jakob Knudsen studied theology at the University of Copenhagen. He graduated in 1881 with a Cand.theol. He started his career as a teacher at Askov folk high school and later worked as a priest at the village of Mellerup in Randers. Vejen Municipality
Vejen Municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 817 km2, and has a total population of 42,742 (2020). Its mayor is Egon Fræhr, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The municipality is part of Triangle Region and of the East Jutland metropolitan area, which had a total population of 1.378 million in 2016. Karen Finch
Karen Solveig Sinding Møller Finch (8 May 1921 – 15 April 2018) was a Danish-born British master weaver, conservator and educator who was the founder of the Textile Conservation Centre. Life Karen Finch was born in May 1921 on a farm in Rødding in Denmark to Soren Møller and Ellen Sinding. She left the farm to study art in Copenhagen under Gerda Henning and Kaare Klint. She witnessed the occupation of her country and moved to England after she married Norman Finch in 1946. After working as a weaver and conservator for the Royal School of Needlework and the Victoria and Albert Museum she set up her own home-based studio in Acton in 1959. She had to fold her bed to make room for her work and the golden crown of Haile Selassie was steamed on the top of her bathroom cupboard. She went on to work on valuable textiles including items owned by Royal Pretender Bonnie Prince Charlie and film star Marlene Dietrich. Fredrik Appel
Fredrik Appel (8 August 1884 – 6 November 1962) was a Danish architect. He was born at Rødding on Jutland, where his father was a high school teacher at Rødding Højskole. He graduated from Odense Technical School in 1903 and from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1913. He conducted study trips to Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1908 and in Germany and Italy in 1910. Later he was in Vienna 1922 and 1926. He was employed as an architect at the Danish State Railways in 1916, became architect assistant in 1919, course architect 1923 and department architect 1946–49. He was also the head of Taastrup Technical School and Taastrup Business School 1928-39 and ran his own drawing office from 1920 to 1944 in Taastrup. He was awarded the K.A. Carl Holst
Carl Holst (born 29 April 1970 in Rødding) is a Danish politician, representing the liberal party '' Venstre''. He is the first Region Mayor of Region of Southern Denmark, an office he assumed on 1 January 2007. He served as County Mayor of South Jutland County from 1 July 2000, following the unexpected resignation of the former county mayor, Kresten Philipsen. Holst was re-elected in 2001, and served in this capacity until 31 December 2006, when the Danish counties were abolished. In the Danish municipal elections on 15 November 2005, he was elected as the first Chairman of Region of Southern Denmark, one of the largest ''Regions'' in Denmark. On 28 June 2015 he became Minister of Defence and Nordic Cooperation replacing Nicolai Wammen.
