Rönesans Rezidans
Rönesans Rezidans (Renaissance Residence) was a residential building in Ekinci, Antakya. It was the first luxury apartment in Hatay Province. On 6 February 2023, it was destroyed as a result of the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake. The building was constructed between 2011 and 2012 as Hatay Province's first luxury apartment complex, and was the home of many well-off residents of Antakya. It was created by Antis Yapı, a company that has been around for several decades. During its collapse following the first earthquake, it is believed to have trapped or killed at least over 800 people. It has been noted that the structure of the building was strong and that it did not collapse but rather was pushed over by the earthquake as Dr. Ahmet Ercan puts it. Floating Raft System
Floating raft is a land-based building foundation that protects it against settlement and liquefaction of soft soil from seismic activity. It was a necessary innovation in the development of tall buildings in the wet soil of Chicago in the 19th century, when it was developed by John Wellborn Root who came up with the idea of interlacing the concrete slab with steel beams. Taner Savut
Taner Savut (10 August 1974 – 6 February 2023) was a Turkish sporting director and footballer who played as a right back. Playing career Born in İzmir, Savut began his career at hometown club İzmirspor in 1994 before joining Fenerbahçe in 1997. He played his sole European match on 29 September that year as the team lost 2–1 at home to Steaua București in the UEFA Cup first round. In 1999 he moved to fellow Süper Lig team Göztepe and a year later Siirtspor, where he scored his only goal of 71 top-flight appearances, concluding a 3–0 home win over Gençlerbirliği on 6 May 2001. Hatayspor Kulübü, known as Atakaş Hatayspor due to sponsorship reasons, is a Turkish professional football club located in Antakya, Hatay Province. Hatayspor, founded in 1967 through a merger of three local clubs, aimed to promote sports and positive habits among youth. The team's colors symbolize nobility, purity, and peace. They won their first championship in 1969–70, earning promotion. Over the years, they faced relegations and promotions in lower leagues. Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
The Fukushima nuclear accident was a major nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Ōkuma, Fukushima, Japan, which began on 11 March 2011. The cause of the accident was the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, which resulted in electrical grid failure and damaged nearly all of the power plant's backup energy sources. The subsequent inability to sufficiently cool reactors after shutdown compromised containment and resulted in the release of radioactive contaminants into the surrounding environment.
