Röbi Rapp
Röbi Rapp (27 May 1930 – 26 August 2018) was a Swiss actor influential in the European LGBT social movement. He was a female impersonator and cabaret star as well as a member of ''Der Kreis'' (''The Circle''). Biography Rapp was born in Zürich. At a young age he became a Swiss child actor, including starring in the lead role in the 1941 film ''Das Menschlein Matthias''. As an adult, Rapp performed as a female impersonator and was a personal friend of Karl Meier. Rapp worked as a hairdresser and later was a teacher at the hairdressing school of Jonny Fahrny. In 2003, Rapp and his longtime partner Ernst Ostertag became the first gay men to register a domestic partnership in Switzerland. They first met at the Barfüsser-Bar in 1956. Rapp came out officially to friends and family, alongside his partner, at their joint 70th birthday party in 2000. (, ''The Circle'') was a Swiss gay magazine. Founded as the lesbian magazine ''Freundschaftsbanner'' in 1932 it turned into a male-only magazine in 1942 under the name ''Der Kreis''. It was trilingual and distributed internationally and gained significant influence in the homosexual movement at the time until it ceased publication in 1967. History was first published on January 1, 1932, under the original title (''Friendship Banner'') as a joint project of Laura Thoma of Zürich lesbian organization Amicitia and August Bambula of the gay men's Excentric Club Zürich. Karl Meier
Karl Meier (16 March 1897 – 29 March 1974) was a Swiss actor influential in the European LGBT social movement. He was a member of the socially active Cabaret Cornichon company, and editor for the gay magazine ''Der Kreis'' (''The Circle''), which he edited under the pen name "Rolf". Life Meier was born the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Glätterin Rheiner in St. Gallen on 16 March 1897, and baptised as Rudolf Carl Rheiner. As a toddler he was taken into care by the childless couple Thomas and Wilhelmina Meier-Götsch in Kradolf and adopted by them in 1912. The whereabouts of his birth mother after 1907 are unknown. In 1912 Meier completed an apprenticeship to a silk weaving enterprise in Schönenberg. His wish, however, was to become an actor. Through the intervention of his understanding boss, he was transferred to the company headquarters in Zürich. Here he took acting lessons and worked with travelling companies.
