The Río Matón Bridge, in Matón Abajo, a barrio of Cayey, Puerto Rico, was built in 1886. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995 and on the Puerto Rico Register of Historic Sites and Zones in 2000. It is a lateral solid web girder bridge spanning Río Matón. It was built as part of the Carretera Central. Its iron span was designed by Spanish engineer Manuel Lopez-Bayo and was brought from Europe. Matón Abajo is a barrio in the municipality of Cayey, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 926. History Matón Abajo was in Spain's gazetteers until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States.
