The Camuy River (; ) is a river in Puerto Rico. It is the third largest underground river in the world and helped shape the cave system known as the Rio Camuy Caves. Parque Nacional De Las Cavernas Del Río Camuy
The Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Río Camuy (English: Camuy River Cave National Park) is a cave system in Puerto Rico. It is located between the municipalities of Camuy, Hatillo, and Lares in northwestern Puerto Rico, but the main entrance to the park is located in Quebrada, Camuy. The caverns are part of a large network of natural limestone caves and underground waterways carved out by the third-largest underground river in the world, the Río Camuy ( Camuy River). The cave system was "discovered" in 1958 and was first documented in the 1973 book ''Discovery at the Río Camuy'' () by Russell and Jeanne Gurnee, but there is archaeological evidence that these caves were explored hundreds of years ago by the Taíno Indians, Puerto Rico's first inhabitants. Hatillo is a barrio in the municipality of Hatillo, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 3,806. History Hatillo was in Spain's gazetteers until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Hatillo barrio was 676.
