Rémy Jacques
Rémy Jacques (1 January 1817 – 15 September 1905) was a French lawyer and politician. He represented the department of Oran, French Algeria, in the National Assembly and then the Chamber of Deputies from 1871 to 1882. He was then Senator of Oran from 1882 to 1900. Life Rémy Jacques was born on 1 January 1817 in Breteuil, Oise. After completing his law studies he enrolled as an advocate in Oran. National Assembly (1871–76) Jacques ran for election as Representative of the Oran department in the National Assembly on 17 February 1871, but won only 2,175 votes out of 10,167. After Joseph Andrieu resigned and Léon Gambetta chose to represent another department there were two vacancies in the Assembly for Oran. Jacques ran again on 12 July 1871 and was elected in second place by 2,288 votes out of 7,193. This election was annulled due to irregularities in the vote counting process. Albert Grévy
Jules Philippe Louis Albert Grévy (23 August 1823 – 10 July 1899) was a French lawyer and politician. He represented Doubs in the National Assembly and then the Chamber of Deputies from 1871 to 1880. He was Governor-General of Algeria from 1879 to 1881, and a Senator for Life from 1880 until his death in 1899. Birth and family Albert Grévy was born on 23 August 1823 in Mont-sous-Vaudrey, Jura. His paternal grandfather, Nicolas Grévy (1736–1812), was the son of farmers in Aumont, moved to Mont-sous-Vaudrey during the French Revolution and bought the property of ''la Grangerie''. He was a justice of the peace. His parents were François Hyacinthe Grevy (1773–1857) and Jeanne Gabrielle Planet (1782–1855). Phylloxera
Grape phylloxera is an insect pest of commercial grapevines worldwide, originally native to eastern North America. Grape phylloxera (''Daktulosphaira vitifoliae'' (Fitch 1855) belong to the family Phylloxeridae, within the order Hemiptera, bugs); originally described in France as ''Phylloxera vastatrix''; equated to the previously described ''Daktulosphaera vitifoliae'', ''Phylloxera vitifoliae''. The insect is commonly just called phylloxera (; from grc, φύλλον, leaf, and , dry). These almost microscopic, pale yellow sap-sucking insects, related to aphids, feed on the roots and leaves of grapevines (depending on the phylloxera genetic strain). Eugène Étienne
Eugène Etienne (15 December 1844 – 13 May 1921) was a French politician who was a Deputy from 1881 to 1919, Minister of War in 1913, and a Senator from 1920 until his death. Life Etienne was born in Oran, French Algeria. He was employed at the Maritime Messageries and supported Gambetta in his election of 1869, even before the fall of the Second Empire. He was close to Émile Bouchet, radical deputy. In 1878 he was appointed inspector of railways. In 1879, he founded a law firm with Émile Bouchet and Jules Blancsubé. He was a Member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1881 to 1919 and a Senator from 1920 to 1921. He served as Minister of War from 21 January 1913 to 9 December 1913 in the governments of Aristide Briand and Louis Barthou. Eugène Étienne presided over the Société Gambetta.
